Rarely, but only because it slips out. The problem with using it so much when I was a stupid kid is that the habit lingers.
This. I've tried to completely break myself of the habit but I have yet to succeed.
Same, it's really hard.

I'm the same way with saying something is 'retarded.' I know it's not the right word but it slips sometimes. It's probably why I think people shouldn't get overly offended if someone uses those words in that connotation. I mean pointing out that 'hey could you maybe use another word?' compared to 'OMG BIGOT' reactions. Sometimes we say stupid things.

i personally use it as an informal synonym for lame also for the record i'm bi so don't think its a hate speech thing when really gay has nothing to do with homosexuality as it means happy.

"Gay" I do not think I use it much but I do often time refer to things or actions as "gay". However as an insult it really doesn't have much strength in todays society.

I picked Rarely. The only person I use it on however is my boss. We have worked together for so long that we swear/call each other names all the time.

Ah, but the Brownshirts (the gang Hitler used to attain power) were gay, and the Nazi party was actually started in a gay bar. Hitler later had the Brownshirts killed in the Night of the Long Knives. But Homosexuality continued in the Nazi party.

Though I think when most people use gay as a insult they are meaning it it the original context of queer (as in not how one would expect it to be) not homosexual.

I don't think that I hate all homosexuals when I use it as an insult, it have become more a word for someone that is very girly and a pussy, and there's very few homosexuals who act "gay".

I'm gay myself, but I don't particually mind when someone uses Gay as an insult. Its generally not intended to discriminate against gay culture. Its funny sometimes when someone finds out i'm gay, say's it within conversation as a slip of the tongue then try's to apologise, i honestly couldn't care less

I think you are exactly wrong. A word is only as valuable as the concept it conveys. Masturbatory lallygagging of sounds without intent of communication is not really worth discussing. Therefore words are a vehicle for communication, as opposed to mere sounds, and therefore the message transmitted is the one that matters.
"Masturbatory lallygagging"? That doesn't even exist. If you honestly want to lay claim to a word and then write it out of all of it's original definitions, then you're just imposing gorgeous restrictions. ("Gorgeous" - To be coated in blood and sweat)

Would you like Fairy tales, Fairy Lights and Fairy cakes referred to as homophobic as well?

Sheeesh. As I've already said irony, sarcasm and other uses of speech can turn the most positive messages into cutting insults and it's nothing to do with the words themselves. I can spit "Well done" at someone or how about "Break a leg" for good luck? Imposing a mandatory use of words is draconian. (Named after an Athenian law scribe under whom small offences had heavy punishments, and not only meaning reptilian)

And rallying behind Simon Amstell as your defender? That's like rallying behind Bernard Manning.

Considering that sexual orientation isn't about how one behaves, I'm not sure what it even is to be "flamboyantly homosexual". Can one also be "flamboyantly heterosexual"?
Sexual orientation can be alleged from choice of clothes and mannerisms, because orientations tend towards certain ways of acting. That doesn't mean you are if you dress that way, or that you're not if you don't - but often an orientations recreates their own stereotype to find members of that orientation.

Flamboyantly Heterosexual:

Anyway, "gay" doesn't fit my mouth very well
Snrkkkk.

No, I do not use gay as an insult. I use a whole slew of other words as insults, my favorite right now being "shithead." It's just so fun sounding for some reason.

I do on occasion, when the situation calls for it. Like any other type of insult, I find it's best not to over-do it. Repetition is generally retarded. Plus, I care more about wit.

While we're at it, we might as well stop using the words "dick", "retard", "*****", "c***", etc as insults, purely because they insult certain groups of people. Not that I particularly use the "c" word but I don't mind people using them so long as they don't repeat them ad nauseum.

No. I'm not inbred.
I fail to see the correlation, good sir.
Then you're the only one.
Not entirely sure I am.
There's no correlation.

I wonder what he has to say about gays who themselves use the word "gay" as an insult.

Nope, 'Gay' isn't insulting. Which is something the bozos at my school have to realise as they still wander past impressing on me that; say, HALO is 'Gay! Or 'XBOX is GHEY' or other badly thought out insults.

I try not to, but sometimes when I'm really pissed off I use every possibly offensive word imaginable.

I do and quite often..... which even I find quite strange given I have no problem with anyone of a particular sexuality - I usually use it more in reference to a thing rather than a person though - Strange how the human mind works sometimes lol

I do use it, pretty regularly. But I've used it since I was fairly young and didn't know exactly what it meant back then. So, its always just been a general insult for me, with no specific conatations.

Even now, when I use it, I don't think of it in the context of implying that the person I am saying it to is a homosexual.

I know I should probably stop using it, but that seems like effort.
