Nope, never.
Doesn't make any sense in the first place, does it?
On persons, the smart ones at least, it doesn't work as an insult and on things....well it's completely pointless there in particular. What does "This movie is gay" even mean? That it cheats on the CGI-effects, but not even with the plot but with another movie? How does that look like? How would *that* be considered an insult? And why are some people already trying to answer my last three, completely pointless questions?
Probably using gay as an insult requires some lack of brain-activity on the insulting AND the insulted's part.

I prefer to carefully handpick my insults to deliver high-quality blows to the other person's self-esteem and psyche. ^^

As a kid, that was thrown around like candy, by every kid. Along with every other swear word there is.
By the way, English is such a terrible language to swear. There's only a couple words and they're just mellow and inadequate...

Nowadays it's still thrown either as a lame insult or just as a funny name to call one, because it's so unoriginal and stupid so it's simply funny for both parties.

It pops out occasionally, but I'm trying hard not to use it anymore...

Which is difficult to do when my friend uses it in every sentence...

Nope.

I have a nasty, nasty habit of saying 'Nazi' instead. I've been trying to get over that for years. I'll fix it eventually.

Sometimes but only because I know it really pisses people off to be called gay.

There's this weird amount of homophobia that goes on in today's society so it makes it that much funnier to point out when someone actually is being "gay"

I don't use it as an insult, but when things go wrong I say "Gay!" or if something doesn't work I may say "Stop being gay!".

I'm not too sure why to be perfectly honest.

I use it all of the time, but never in a serious manner. I'm not going to go up to a gay person and call him gay like it's a bad thing, but I will joke around with my friends.

This is pretty much my response to anybody who thinks it's an appropriate insult.

Being a only very very slightly bi-leaning-mostly-gay-woman, I don't see why I'd use it as an insult.
You wouldn't. Straight males use it in a heavily straight male environment as a term to attack another straight male's masculinity. It's part of the rhetoric of the constant straight male struggle of establishing a pecking order where the top of the heap bullies the bottom feeders.

Yes, it's completely and totally stupid. As a straight male, I find it to be an utterly retarded and backwards providence that serves no purpose other than to boost or crumble a person's ego. I'm also one of the "bottom feeders", so take that as you will.
And yet you use "retarded" in your post. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you, I just found it a little hypocritical.
That's all you got out of that? Seriously?

Okay, this is fixable. Just post a picture of yourself and I'll replace the word "retarded" with something describing you. Good enough?

Edit: You know what, let me expand that point. It's CAVEMAN BEHAVIOR!!! It's how primates conduct themselves in the wild. It's what roosters do to each other so they can f**k the most hens. You're 100% correct, retarded people are much more evolved.
Honestly, there's no need to get snippy. I even told you that I agreed with what you said, but that using "retarded" as an adjective is exactly the kind of behavior you're speaking out against. Think about it before you just reply angrily.

I don't usually use it, especially since one of my freinds decided that she was bi. But now I'll use it sometimes, but only on her, so it's more a parody of using the word 'gay' in a negative context.

Never. And people who can go to hell. They immediately slip off my personal radar and become irrelevant to me and when they speak the sound more like the adults in a Charlie Brown cartoon - I know that they are speaking but whatever is coming from them is not worth paying the slightest attention to.

The word is being used as a synonym for bad/broken/unwanted/useless/unpleasant/undesirable/defective. Now instead of using "gay" use a term for black, or jewish, or asian and tell me how that sounds to you?

It is a word that belongs to a certain demographic of cunts that I chose not to associate with.

I have a gay friend who use's fag as an insult.
I don't see gay as an insult unless it's being used in the context to mean homosexual.

No, and it really pisses me off when my friends use it. It didn't when we were kids/teenagers but now we are all in our early twenties I'd have thought they'd have grown out of it by now.

Not since i was, like , 13. And hardly anybody I know uses it. In fact the only ones that do are gay themselves. Must be like the N-Word thing.

I don't really use it as an insult, and I don't really use it in the context of someone thats homosexual unless I'm just joking around with my friends ("You know how I know you're gay?"). If I say thats gay I just use it as a different word for stupid. It's kind of like Louis CKs bit where he called people ******, but he wouldn't call someone a ****** because they were actually gay. (Its a really funny bit if you haven't seen it). Anyway I don't really see it as some terrible thing that I have to change about myself, today gay is commonly used as a word for something thats stupid/bad but nobody really connects that with guys liking other guys in that context.

Yes. But not because I actually want to describe something or someone as homosexual, but because it's just a common derogative term with very little meaning in certain contexts. I wrote a blog about this. Shameless plug:

http://theforceisstrongwithhim.blogspot.com/2010/04/gay-first-post.html

It hasn't quite reached the same meaningless status as the phrase 'lol' and I don't think it ever will; but it shares similarities.

If there are people I don't know there, I always say something like "Not that there's anything wrong with that" and try to make people feel as awkward as possible.
What can I say? Sometimes I enjoy being a dick to people.

The ironic thing here is that a good portion of the people who claim to not use the word "gay" are, in fact, the one's being the most insulting to others. It's, honestly, cheering me up a bit.

Thank you.
