When I look through diferent threads, people like to use Wikipedia as a reference to facts they give. Now from what I have been told, Wikipedia is not a reliable sourse for information because of its user generated content. So my question is, when you do research, do you actually research or do you just Wiki it?

If I wanna be quick, I use wikipedia. If I'm really interested in the subject, I don't.

Yes. If the information is already mostly correct and in one place, why shouldn't you use it?

I fucking love Wikipedia. I use it all the time. I can't even count how many times I used it just today.

Yeah, I use it for anything forum related. Heh, I even cover my tracks if I'm trying to prove a point by just following a Wikipedia reference and using that. It's fair game.

no, whenever i look into anything in Wikipedia i take it with a grain of salt, mostly because i have had bad experiences with things said in there (contradicting stuff and lies that were taken for granted just because it was common knowledge that way)

I use it almost as a cliff-notes. I'll get a general idea of what my subject is about and between the sources listed on the page and Google I'll back up what they've said and expand.

i do, but when i cite i use the handy thing at the bottom of the page. It has everything you need to know and its nicely #ed for your convenience.

I use Wikipedia to find other sources. It's not my main one. Ff I use it then I am using to as a side note, or for information I couldn't find elsewhere.

That's just stupid.

99% of everything on the internet is user-generated content.
At least with Wikipedia, if someone screws up, someone else will probably correct it.

So yes, I do. It's pretty easy to tell when something has been vandalized anyway.
Besides, almost all of the information has the source with it at the bottom so you can check to see if it's right. Also teachers want you to have multiple sources anyway and the information for Wikipedia will overlap with the info that you find on the other sources you will use.

It's good for general stuff, pretty hard to dispute that the main reason for the USA's entry into World War Two was the bombing of Pearl Harbor, but get much more specific then that, and things start getting pretty blurry.
