If you haven't played Portal 2 yet just leave this topic alone because I would like to talk about the possibility of another Portal game after the events of Portal 2.

Ok, so after the events of Portal 2 it would make sense that Chell never returns, but I would like to know more about Aperture, Cave Johnson and GLaDOS.

The gameplay could be extended through patches for the co-op campaign but another sequel wouldn't really make sense. Valve kind of explained a lot about what happened to all the different characters and left a good ending with few loose ends.

However, I would like to see more of Aperture, but maybe in a different game in the Half-Life universe.

Well, I want to know what you think and how you want Valve to handle this.

EDIT: Btw, did you guys see Ratmans final transmission. So cute :)

Most definitely yes! I fell in love with glados, even more, after the second game. So Portal 3 would be awesome.

Hell to the no.

I loved Portal 2, believe me, but the ending felt so... closed off. It was a great ending, I like it as is, and let you, the gamer, fill in the rest of the blanks. Plus, isn't the co-op adventures of Atlas and P-Body what happened after Chell was free to go?

If you're going to expand on Aperture Science, leave it to Half-Life for now.

Yeah, I saw that one, but I don't know how serious that comment was though...

I'm not totally convinced that he wasn't joking by looking at that article.

I do think that Portal 2's ending kind of closed things off. It resolved pretty much everything that I can think of, so I'm not sure how a sequel would work, especially if it followed Chell.

Unlike some other things he has said, [http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Gabe_newell] this seems pretty straightforward, no bullshit.

Well, I guess there's no point to this now, since if razelas is right, it's already happening.

I just know that they cannot do another one with Chell as the main character. Unless they retcon it and change the ending cinematic (again), her adventures in the Enrichment Center are over.

They could do it on one of those other thousand test subjects they were keeping in storage, though, and follow up on the Co-Op Testing Initiative with Atlus and P-Body while they were at it.

One thing they definitely need for Portal 3 is more support for user-created levels, including a level editor separate from the Source SDK and an LPB-esque sharing system. If it tuned out that Portal 3 was just another level pack for Portal 2 with these features added, I would be happy: maybe not 60 dollars happy, but happy enough.

There is such a thing as deadpan humor [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadpan]. I use it quite a lot.

Until an absolute official confirmation comes from valve, I'm assuming he was joking.

Deadpan humor is useful for stand-up comedy in front of an audience, not for making jokes about the future of ones company in a press conferences where investors are present.

It's enough for me, considering that the Borealis has yet to be recovered, but I do wonder what is actually out there past those corn fields. It's just so strange to see a pristine landscape with clear blue sky in the HL2 universe.

I was expecting the ending to be her in a room that was made to look like the real world. I was expecting a panel by the clouds to flicker or something.
"You're free to go. *tosses cube* Hah-hah-hah. Just kidding"

I imagine if they make a Portal 3 it will have the robots or test subjects as the main character. Or maybe it will be set back in Apeture's past? Who knows. Either way, I'm not worried. VALVe knows how to make good sequels.

Not wanting Portal 3 is greedy. "I don't want it so VALVe shouldn't make it for anyone else."

"Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
If mankind perished utterly."

Maybe it's because I re-read the poem and story shortly before Portal 2, but the whole thing screams of a world where humanity is gone or dying out (well, save for anyone inside the Center). So it's probably just more... pristine landscape, maybe some ruins of old buildings (it'd be kind of awesome to see the last remains of the Citadel.... sadly, locations don't work out.) It's entirely possible that, even if the Combine were run off from the Earth, that humanity simply couldn't survive the state of things. The world got back to normal, just not fast enough.

As for Portal 3... I never expected there to be a Portal 2, nor did I expect it to be so good. So while I'm not actively wanting a third installment, if it is done, I'll give it a chance. (And bringing Chell back wouldn't be that impossible- no matter what the state of the world is, you have a severely messed up girl being set loose, it wouldn't surprise me if they made it to where she willingly went back and had kind of a Rat Man like existence... until GLaDOS found out.)

Valve is clearly aware of your predicament and will take another universe-lifetime considering it as a whole.

OT: That ending did feel closed off, but its doesnt mean Atlas and P-Body cant continue.
