Recently I've noticed some of the people I chat with on a regular basis have started slamming wrestling a lot. This sort of sucks because I feel i'm actually quite a big fan of stuff like the WWE, going far enough to actually purchase some shirts and other nic-nacs off of their website, so my question for you escapists, is what is your thought on WWE,WWF,TNA and anything else like that?

EDIT: Also if you have any favorite wrestlers don't be afraid to shout em' out

I love wrestling..

But seeing as i am from Norway, there are very few channels they send any wrestling on at all..
We had one channel, that sent highlights once a week, but they aired it in middle of night so i was rarely up to see it..

But back in my childhood years we had some channels that sent wrestling on a daily basis, back when Hulk Hogan was the shit! Yeah, i watched it constantly!

Used to. Then my 8-yr-old cousin got into it and now he won't stop gushing over John Cena. Nothing against the man himself (he likes Fist of the North Star for Christ's sake!) but now I can't watch it without imagining that little shit screaming about it the next day.

The "TV-PG" thing doesn't help either.

Yeah true that, I recently bought the best of WCW Monday Night Nitro dvd, now THAT was some awesome stuff.
Yeah, it's even worse since I was there when Stone Cold was in his prime. Now all of his appearances just seem like a publicity stunt to boost ratings.

Also, what happened to the Bra and Panties Match? No one even mentions them anymore.

Not at all, never have, and I don't understand why other people like it.

Of course that doesn't mean I have anything against those who do watch wrestling (that would make me extremely hypocritical considering my choice in TV programs), I just really don't get it...

Anyone care to explain what it is they like about wrestling, just so I know?

I pretty much started watching wrestling near the beginning of the attitude era - just a couple of months out from the infamous "Montreal Screw job". I was hooked on it for the next 3 years or so but after the attitude era ended I lost interest slowly and now don't really care that much. I still look up whats happening at the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania but don't really any of it.

For me Stone Cold, the Rock, Undertaker, Foley, HBK, HHH, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, Kane (with his mask), New Age Outlaws, Hardy Boys, E & C, the Dudley Boys and Ken Shamrock were some of the most entertaining superstars and really made the show fun to watch.

No. I don't really understand it to be honest. I wouldn't mind seeing it live just to experience big ass american stadium and atmosphere.

However, in my late teens (28 now) I had a night shift job and I got sucked into it a bit on Sky Sports. Undertaker, Kane, Triple-H, The Rock, etc. Didn't know what was going on, only that I didn't like Triple-H and oddly had some simpatico with Kane.

Oddly entertaining it was.

Not anymore...I followed wrestling for almost 20 years though. I always watched whatever was free and read up on pay per view results.

I eventually stopped watching it when I just stopped watching tv in general. I have nothing against it at all aside from the fact that I don't like to just sit and watch tv or movies anymore. I find most of that stuff boring.

For me, wrestling was at its best when they combined skilled athletic wrestlers with comedy. Guys like Christian, Kurt Angle and The Rock are great examples of this that have always been very entertaining on the mic and in the ring.

While I wouldn't watch wrestling on its own...if you asked me to watch wrestling while playing Magic the Gathering I'd be all for it.

I do not, but I respect the athleticism they display.

As for favorites, The Rock is easily my favorite. I can't speak on his wrestling, seeing as I don't watch it, but just go to his TVTropes page. Look up some of his quotes and tell me he isn't awesome.

Saw it for the first time with some friends about a week ago. Laughed at how obviously fake it is.

Blacklash 2000 and seeing The Rock doing a double rock bottom god that made me cheer and still does . Carried on watcing got stale then brock lesnar came and got well good again but since he left I lost interest and now think its just a joke.

But I saw C.M Punk speech dont know if it was a shoot but god that was awesome speech

Nope. I mean, I suppose I see why people like it...but I just see it as sweaty men getting mouthy and groping each other.

Meh, not for me.

Cuck Fena, honestly. He needs to like actual wrestlers, not Boring Invincible Heroes.

OT: I love watching wrestling, despite asshats like John Cena and Randy Orton populating the main event. We need people like Daniel Bryan and Sin Cara in the main event, not people who only know 5 moves *COUGH John Cena COUGH*

Speaking of which, what happened to the Cruiserweight Division? I loved watching that! It was always exciting to see high flyers like Rey Mysterio and Paul London jump around, freaking awesome! But since WWE got rid of it, the only thing that makes it worth watching is technical wrestlers like Chris Jericho and Daniel Bryan.

I did as a kid, then I was told Santa Claus, Easter bunny, Holywood movies and WWE were actually fairytails, so that burly men soap opera doesn't hold quite the same appeal.

Well I love the Smackdown vs Raw games (or, now known as just WWE it seems), so I generally find that when I've been playing a fair bit of it I am in the mood to catch some wrestling.

Even if you criticise if for being mostly fake, you cannot doubt the athleticism of the wresterers.

Also, recommendation for anyone that does, or does not, like wrestling: watch the Wrestler. It's brilliant. If you like wrestling, it shows a lot of what happens back stage and how they work it all; if you don't, it's an amazing film anyway.
