I'm curious if I'm a freak here. My suspicion is that the fine, upstanding folks at a site like the Escapist don't have a whole lot of patience for more passive entertainment, at least as a daily routine, but I could be wrong.

I also understand that there may be some who slip between the cracks of the question as phrased, watching an hour of tv, an hour of Netflix, then slipping in a DVD when friends come over, and so on. Just respond with the one that most closely reflects how you're spending your non-game time with a television.

Thanks for taking the time to indulge my curiosity.

Uh...never?

We dropped out of the cable/satellite racket...

After we realized we could get Hulu+/Amazon Prime/Netflix...

AND increase our internet speed...

AND spend LESS money.

So, yeah.

Rarely. I mainly watch Netflix now or things on iPlayer.
Mum has the TV on constantly so I catch bits of what she watches but I don't care for it. They only thing that's actually interesting is re-runs of sitcoms and comedy panel shows or Doctor Who/Sherlock etc.
If I go to a friends house they might have it on, but it's only background noise.

It's mostly shite on TV recently anyway.

If, by television, you mean using my computer to watch movies and shows/anime whenever I want to, then yes.
I haven't watched regular TV in 10 years. I don't even own a television box.

I have an HDTV and even a cable outlet, but I never bothered to hook actually hook it up. I have it hooked up to my PC and consoles for when I want to play games or watch shows/movies from my bed.

I don't see what cable TV has to really offer me. Given, I do miss flipping channels to Discovery Channel and National Geographic, but honestly even their programming has been mostly ruined. I like picking my own content.

Wow, looks like your theory is right so far. My wife always has the TV going, and then the kids are always watching various shows, but me? Probably a few hours a week, and it's something I've recorded and then watch with the family.

Nope. I've got Netflix for all of my TV series and anime sites for anime. I honestly haven't watched TV in a couple months. Not even for background noise. I'd much rather watch what I can control in 1080p, than watch what I can't control at 480p

Er, no?
Why isn't there an option for just 'No'?
I own an old TV, but it's neither hooked up nor used. At all.
I'm not using netflix, hulu or whatever the feck else either.
Any films I watch I watch on my computer. Or in the cinema.

Eh, not interested in TV. The only broadcast stuff I watch is anime, and otherwise I spend my time doing other stuff.

Seeing how my tv in my room (where I am right now) is not connected to the main cable, I don't watched it that oftern. The only time I do is when I got a new dvd to watched. Yes my pc can played dvd too but these days I can't exactly maintain focus for too long when my pc is near since I want to check for new message etc.

There is also the tv in the living room but my parent are watching it most of the time so the only time I would watched on it is when they were to bed or are out of the house, that is if there is actually something worth watching on tv!

I mostly just use my television for watching movies on bluray or dvd. The only shows I really watch are Walking Dead (and Talkling Dead) and Archer, so at most I watch tv a few hours per week.

Pretty much the same story here, can get my stuff from the internet on-demand, no ads/commercial breaks, pause whenever and I pay only for my internet subscribtion, as opposed to paying for internet + tv (or phone).

That isn't to say I haven't got the patience for passive entertainment. I watch a 2 hour stream (edit: uninterrupted) or some consecutive youtube videos with no problem.

While i do watch occasionally some streams, youtube and movies and such... i haven't had a "real" TV for about 10 years now. Only a monitor for my PC.

No cable, nothing.

Also i prefer it that way.

I occasionally catch a glimpse of the news if i happen to pass it by when it's on in another room, other than that i don't watch it.

If I'm staying for dinner at my parents I might watch a bit, generally Midsummer Murders but thats about it. There isn't even a tv in the flat, if someone really want to see a movie on a large screen they just hook up a laptop to the projector.

Television? Yeah I remember watching it as a young boy...

In all seriousness, I don't really sit down and watch TV anymore. I can't remember the last time I turned on a television with the intent of watching it. Nothing interests me personally, and I can watch certain shows online if I want to see them.

I feel old fashioned.

I record and occasionally watch Mythbusters and 'Til Debt Do Us Part, and only ever with family.
