Lots of games contain cinematics, and quite a few of them have one before the main menu comes up. My question for you, the members of The Escapist, is do you watch that?

Feel free to share any intros you particularly enjoyed in the thread as well.

Of course, it's a part of the game and sets the scene. I can't think of any game where I'd skip it on the first play-through.

My favourites are Bioshocks' and Dawn of Wars'.

Why would I want to skip it? It gives a little backstory to the game, it's often interesting, and let's me see what I'm going to get in the game. If it has one, I almost always watch it.

And the best ones are Left 4 Dead 1/2.

I always watch them! Sometimes, they're more interesting than the actual openings. :/ And other times, they're so badass that it'd be a shame if you don't watch them. (See Drakengard or Resonance of Fate)

Kinda weird to skip one I think.
Wouldn't really be giving the game much of a chance.

Mostly. I think the only game I've skipped in it in recent memory was Dragon Age, but I ended up watching the Unskippable of that so...

Part of the ritual of playing a game for the first time is to watch the whole intro movie. I will skip it on future plays though.

Star Control 2 had a great intro movie if I recall, as did Wing Comander 3. Recently, Mass Effect 2 had a great intro movie, even though I didn't play the game.

But the king of all intro movies is Blizzard. From the first Warcraft CD on.. thier movies are always top notch.

Always the first time. I find the story to be a necessary part to play a game. If it is a good intro I'd be happy to watch it more than once.

I usually let it run through without skipping if it's my first time with the game.

Plus, two games that have really awesome intros are Fallout 3 and Borderlands. (Cage the Elephant is AWESOME)

Yes I watch them. I even like to watch the demo/cutscenes that play if you don't touch the controller in the main menu.

I always watch it the first few times I play the game. After about ten times I never really watch it unless I'm bored.

Of course, I'm going to watch the intro to every game I can.

It aids me in getting immersed. Almost like slowly lowering yourself into a cold pool.

I always watch the intros the first time I play the game. Loading screens, everything, I want to see what the devs had in mind to help form my initial experience with the game. I see it as giving them some props for paying attention to presentation by paying attention to their work.

If you're talking about the opening before the menu pops up? Only on my first time playing it. But I always watch the opening cutscene; it helps me settle into the game's story & mood, as many have already stated.

It really depends on the game. Some games have really good intro cinematics, others are boring, and others still vary depending on my mood.
