The Eleventh Hour, The Beast Below contained none of the characters from Tennant's.
Victory of the Daleks only had the titular characters, and if you hate the Dalek's, then how do you like Doctor Who?

I think you're forcing yourself not to like it now. Granted I can't watch Waters of Mars, even if the Master is in it, because I've heard the writing is a 2 episode long death toll for RTD/Tennant - but it IS a kid's show, and always was. You've got to expect some kid-o-centric plots.
I think this just shows how little I remember of the new series. I missed The Beast Below and appear to have subsequently forgotten that it existed. As you have clearly shown me, I was massively generalising about things that I really didn't know a whole lot about.

When I referred to "the first two or three episodes", it appears that I meant the first, third and fourth. Put simply, The Eleventh Hour didn't make a good impression, Victory of the Daleks was the continuation of the show's "Chronic Dalek Syndrome" and The Time of Angels saw the return of River Song and the Weeping Angels.

In a way you're right. Doctor Who is a show which I continued to watch long after I stopped enjoying it, mostly because it'd earned so much good-will with Eccleston's run. I wanted to like it but it really wasn't the same.

Got to be Tennant. He's the one I first watched, and the one that brought me into the show in general, so that may have affected my decision. Besides, he can out act the other two without moving, as Midnight can attest.

Eccleston was... fine I suppose. I just didn't think his acting was up to par really. Plus that grin was slightly cringing.

As for Smith, I won't deny that he can act. Unfortunately he seems to have been let down by boring-arse plots and two dimensional companions(looking at you Amy).

The Master isn't in Waters of Mars. He's in The End of Time, Waters of Mars is a special shown before those two episodes. It's not related to that story line, really.

EDIT: Still David Tennant but I think, given time, Matt Smith might become a new favourite.

Eccle...thing was my first doctor, but I didn't think he was that great. He was good enough to keep me interested, but he wasn't exactly great. Tennant was awesome. I just think he was an amazing doctor. He had some pretty bad episodes, but the fact he was in them and that he had so many great ones more than made up for it.

I thought I would hate Matt Smith, but was pleasantly suprised. He seems like he'll do a very good job too. :)

As an aside: Amy Pond is definately my favourite companion so far. Mmmm. ;)

Matt Smith, definitely.

It was Christopher Eccleston even into Tennant's tenure, then 'Human Nature' and 'Family of Blood' turned me around to liking Tennant more. Come 'The Beast Below' I was ALREADY loving Matt Smith.

Christopher Eccleston. He was easily the best in my humble opinion, I saw the appeal of Tennant, but I just wasn't swayed by it. Sure he had some good episodes, but I felt the show was dumbed down a bit with Tennant, I just can't see Tennant doing an episode like "The Empty Child". And Matt Smith ain't bad, hes not great, but to be fair he hasn't had particularly good storylines so far, so we'll just have to see how he plays out.

Having gotten into the show recently starting with Eccleston, I honestly think they are all brilliant in their own way. One's incarnation is not meant to be better than another, although I think each of us have our own personal preference. My friends much prefer Tennant, however as much as I loved Tennant, not just as the Doctor but in everything else he is in, I honestly prefer Matt Smith as the Doctor and I really enjoy his take as the Doctor - a cheeky school boy; and he summed it up for me in the latest xmas episode when his psychic paper broke after claiming he was a 'mature and responsible adult... ah finally, a lie too big'.

But one thing the Doctor has never lost, is that intellectual curiosity and wonder. No matter who plays the Doctor, the actor has to be able to pull that off, otherwise they can never fill the Doctor's shoes.

So yeah, Matt Smith for me. Bowties. Are. Cool.

EDIT: I've said the word "Doctor" like 20 times in this post.

I prefer Matt Smith. Whilst David Tennant might be a better actor, I think Matt Smith makes a better doctor. He's more eccentric and English. That is good.

Besides, the fez.

Well I wouldn't kick either of them out the bed for eating biscuits... If you know what I mean ;D honk honk.

Seriously though, I think David Tennant is the better actor, but I like Matt Smith's kooky spin on him. I'm not sure if he'll last as long as Tennant, but I hope so. And Moffat is a really good writer so he has the advantage of working with him.

My reason for disliking Matt Smith in the role is that his first appearance was a fairly poor first impression.

David Tennant's final episode, as well as his absolute final scene, was such an emotional and heart-wrenching time and the whole episode was so well-acted and melancholy. The Smith comes along and just messes the whole episode.

Seriosuly, we have this incredibly emotional regeneration and then to finish it off with this......clown afterwards!? Who thought that was a good idea?

I adore Eleven because he's just a crazy old professor in a young man's body. XD

I love all the new-Who Doctors to pieces, though. It'd be nearly impossible to declare a definite favorite for me. (I will confess that I cried for five minutes when Ten regenerated, though... XD)

When Dave Tennant took over for Eccleston I was sad, but Tennant quickly won me over. When Smith took over for Tennant, I was sad, but Smith managed to make good.

Tennant is my favourite of the Doctors since reboot. Smith may grow on me, but he's still in last place of the three. He's not bad. He';s had some great moments. He's just not Tennant, and I really did like Eccleston as well.

I'm still fairly new to the whole Doctor Who franchise and indeed my first real experience with The Doctor was with David Tennant so I gotta say he's my favourite. When I first saw Eccleston in the role, he seemed so out of place to me and I still can't quite wrap my head around the idea of him s The Doctor. As for Matt Smith however, I find his portrayal of the Doctor interesting. I find he'll switch back and forth between behaving like the ancient nine hundred something year old Time Lord and behaving like the eccentric young man he appears to be. Kinda like he's a very old man stuck in the body of a very young man, which is probably how I'd interpret the character's current situation too. I was skeptical at first, but I think Matt Smith will do well as the Doctor.

I'll freely admit that when Matt Smith took over I wasn't happy with the choice, and I still think they could have found a better actor to play the role. At the moment he's about fair to middling for me as the Doctor.

However after re-watching his episodes I've come to the conclusion that it's not his acting that I have a problem with, he's actually a very good actor but the writing for his first series was awful. The christmas special was better but still not up there.

I firmly believe that Steven Moffat's focus was on Sherlock rather than Doctor Who, as that was a much better series and felt much more like the Doctor than Doctor Who had done for quite a while. Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock was basically the Doctor without a TARDIS.

Whilst my Favourite of the three has to be Tennant, I think Ecclestone had the potential to be one of the best Doctors ever. Ecclestone's regeneration into Tennant was excellent and essentially a celebration of the character which made people happy and accepting of Tennant. Unfortunately Tennant's was essentially a maudlin over-emotional death rather than a stepping stone, which handed Smith a massive uphill struggle to connect with the fans.

Out of all the Doctors though, My personal favourite going by just the tv shows would be Peter Davison's Doctor. Whenever I think of the quintessential Englishman, he immediately pops into mind. Going by the expanded universe such as the Big Finish audio adventures however I would say that Colin Baker just pips him to the post. Much like Smith, Colin Baker was a very good actor let down by poor scripts. He has had some excellent stories in the audio-plays and really shows his ability.

The Master wasn't in 'Waters of Mars' root ;)
I assume you meant 'End of Time'.

OT: I would still have Tennant's adopted babies. For he is glorious.
But Eccleston was a fantastic Doctor, he would have been great for a few more series :(

Matt Smith still comes in 3rd of the new Doctors, but only just.

Matt Smith is AMAZING as the Doctor, and I think I might like him better than David Tennant. However, when someone says "The Doctor" my mind instantly jumps to David Tennant. In other words, I like Matt Smith a bit more, but Tennant feels more like "The Doctor" to me.

Oh, and the writing for this season is INFINITELY better.
