Simple question.

For me, I'd say usually. Most games intended for kids have next to no depth and the developers usually don't make an effort to make the game good. Not always, but mostly.

No.

Seriously, have you ever played a Lego game?

Nearly ALL of them are awesome.

I'm going to go with "usually," on the grounds that ninety percent of the kiddy games, movies, and TV shows I've seen are shit, and at least an additional five percent are shit with an exclamation point on the end.

By the way: is Imagine: Party Babyz considered a "kiddy" game or a "girly" game? Just wondering.

Definitely this. I'm 20 years old, and I enjoyed playing Lego Star Wars with my friends immensely.
You're simply prejudging games, which is an idiotic thing to do. It's accepted with games meant for children, though, because, well, they're meant for children.

I agree with this. I've played nearly all the Lego games.
And I also quite enjoyed Viva Pinata.

Usually. Most games made for kids aren't made very well because the kids will either get bored with it five minutes in anyway or only play because they're stimulated by the shiny moving colors.

But every so often the designers will put a little effort into making the game.

Nine times out of ten when developers are trying to skew towards a younger audience they don't respect them, and if they don't respect their audience they don't respect their own product. By virtue of marketing to "kiddies," the negative associations that everyone on that team has with the term "kiddie game" carry over directly into the game. It takes a certain kind of group to understand that just because they're making a game for kids doesn't mean it isn't worth trying. It's all a matter of being open to possibilities, but nine times out of ten people just aren't.

Yeah I agree with the lego thing. I've always been a nintendo dude and so I've seen lots of kids games. All the Lego games have been wonderful. Animal Crossing and Super Monkey Ball are also prime examples of kiddie related gaming that are very fun and addicting. There's always fun kiddie games. Yes there are gonna be lots of shit but if you're involved with the gaming world at all, you know from reviews what is shit anyway.

Yes, nine times out of ten kiddie games are completely shitty. Though there are a few good kid friendly games (Anyone remember Zoombeenies?)

What pisses me of is that some kiddie games commercials make it sound like real games are violent and pointless.

I wouldn't say that... The Monsters Vs. Aliens video game, which was marketed toward children, was actually very well done.

The first game to come to my mind is Banjo and Kazooie, while it was cartoony and looked kiddie it was a true game at heart and I would prefer playing it today over modern games such as halo or gears of war, but maybe not 3 fallout because...well it's awesome.

But the exception is such games like ummm almost every Wii game that tries to just shits out a game and specifically markets it to the under 10 as a quick cah in, those games suck.

Sometimes happy simplicity is just what you are looking for from a game and thats what kiddy games provide. So I vote No, kiddy doesn't always equal shitty. Like any other game type some are good and some are bad, its not the genre that decides there quality its how well they are made.

No, of course not! Of course, there has been a trend of making shitty kiddie games, but the two aren't synonymous.

I'd say usually yes although I have played some games that were aimed at kids to be quite fun.

Then again, what defines a "kiddy game?" I mean I can say all Mario games are kiddy games as anyone can play them and they mostly rated E for Everyone, but adults also enjoy Mario. Sonic as well, though Sonic used to be one for the older kiddies.

If you include games like Mario, Sonic, and some other ones as well then I would go to a 50/50 chance of a kiddy game being good.

I remember Pokemon Blue, Red, and Yellow before all the new shit they keep making and I still enjoy those games. Are those considered kiddy games?

They can be and they can not be.

Does having a good story in a game automatically make it good? No (need an example? Look at DOOM, the closest thing it had to a story was a paragraph in the instruction booklet yet it was still a damn fine game by any objective standard).
