Final Fantasy Tactics sort of falls of the radar when it comes to discussions of the series because it is somewhat of an anomaly. The game came out between VII and VIII with, really, none of the 'canon' team. Effectively the Tactics: Ogre team was bought by (at the time) Squaresoft to make a Final Fantasy game in a turn-based strategy style. When it comes to the numeral Final Fantasy games you tend to see a certain team. In those days it would have been the days when Sakiguchi(sp?) was still the director/producer, so Tactics falls out of the 'canon'. That said, I think it has a stellar story but I found it incredibly easy. The thing was, I found out that if I trained my characters a specific way (not even grinding until I was 10 levels above everyone) I would be able to teleport, kill any target in one to two hits and (thanks to blade grasp) most of my characters were nigh unhittable. If you knew where to spend your job points, that game was a bit of a cake walk.
I haven't tried a whole lot of turn-based strategy games, but I've liked what I played. I took a brief attempt at Ogre Tactics for SNES when I was about 14, but it went over my head, mostly. I have, on the other hand, really enjoyed the Heroes of Might and Magic games. Numbers 3 and 5 in particular.
