If you're playing any class in an RPG and you're only playing as "the warrior" or "the wizard" or "the healer", you're doing it wrong.
Any character is gonna be boring if you just think of them in these defined terms.
Even when you play as a melee fighter, you don't have to be "the warrior". Depending on how you play, you could be a wild berserker, a stallwart defender, a highly dsciplined legionaire, a wandering xia, a noble knight errant, or anyone else who ever held a weapon. Sure, not all of those options are gonna be the optimal gameplay choice in any given RPG, but if you have some imagination and understand the mechanics within the game you can create a lot of unique characters out of any class.
There's Demon's Souls/Dark Souls forum dedicated entirely to how to represent a variety of historical or fictional characters with the character you create in the game. And those games don't even involve any "real" roleplaying.
