I´ve played it for about 1 year and it was great. I just played with some of my friends in a fixed 5 man group, everybody knew what´s his job and we ran smoothly through the dungenons, quests, instances, everything. The problem started when we reached the "high level content", as you´ll have to invest more and more play- (aka free-) time to grind all the stuff you need for the higher instances. You need a guild. That was ok, we found a nice fun-guild, but even here you just had to "work" ingame, so you could join the raid-instances, farm stuff and do the same instance time and again to get a specific item, not because you just WANTED it, but just because you needed it for the next instance...
After I quit wow due to universitary work, I realised that the last 4 month or so the "game" has felt more like work...

i can understand why a lot of people love it, you even met great guys and girls out there and it´s relly fun, but the main- (aka HL) content forces you to invest waaaay too much time (at least for my sake)

I've never played it, but I've seen what it does to people... *coughcollegepeoplecough* They just spend their free time on it and then complain when they haven't done the work for the end of the year.

But I wouldn't play it, it looks too cartoonish and I have a bit of an addictive personality.

I have noticed that WoW threads outnumber any other games on this site (next closest is probably fallout 3). but i dont really like it, i think its a bit dull and dont understand the hype.

Does anyone else not like it here, also people who do like it what is your fave part of it that you think makes it fun?
...have you actually read any of those other threads? Your question is answered in any given one of them very thoroughly, occasionally in very strong language.

As for myself, I like the game a lot. I like most character-building games by default, let alone for WoW's fairly expansive ability customization. The world is huge and filled with interesting things, and I've passed an idle hour every so often sneaking into a higher-level area searching for iron, mithril, and herbs I need (let alone my habit of hanging around Loch Modan because it reminds me of Mammoth Lakes, California). And I like making things, as evinced by one of my favorite hours of play, simply going around, gathering materials, mining copper, buying tools and cloth, and using the Great Forge to build...a spyglass! *insert Zelda music*

I don't not like it, I just don't like what it does to people and what it does to your "street cred" if you are even remotely connected to it in the far off past.

Not rly, I dont like it because you have to buy it and then you have to keep paying to play. So you buy a game... and you keep paying... TO PLAY IT. Drop that bs right there and then. I understand it may be fun but it's so stupid. People should boycott it until you would have to pay like a one time payment of 50, maybe even 100 bucks and then never throw out another dime again. All pay-to-play games like wow and runescape generally make me sick.

Never seen the attraction on MMORPGs. I can stomach the odd single player RPG and even a bit of action multiplayer RPGing like Diablo 2. But mostly I'm a trigger happy FPS player.

Plus I've seen it eat a friend, so slight bias there.

It's not that we hate WOW it's just that so many people have been burned by WOW that we want to ease the pain by sharing our experiences with WOW, like a war vet or rape victim.

My personal story is that I loved WOW the first few months but after grinding my way to level 30 I realized I was just wasting my life siting at a desk, staring at a screen at something that was becoming increasingly less fun and more like work. Around February the game kept crashing my computer, customer support just cut and copied the faq page when I asked for help and after I uninstalled it I kept getting errors when I tried to reinstall it so I took it as a sign to quit and have not played since.

Sometimes I miss it but then I don't feel I needed it so WOW is like a a hangout that got closed down so I have to go on to other things and make friends elsewhere.

I don't like World of Warcraft, myself. I found the free-trial depressingly boring, for the most part, and didn't like the fact that it alienated a former friend of mine from everybody, to the point where he preferred to stay glued to his computer screen at all times, although he was an excessive player of it.

This, but add to it that I find most RPGs (MMORPGers especially) really boring.

I am not fond of WoW for numerous reasons all ending in that it is unbelievably boring. Also, everything looks rigid and it starts to bother me at a certain point. Kind of an eyesore really.

It isn't the monthly fee that bothers me. It is just having to rely on other people for an rpg which I think is a personal experience.

Never played WOW and to be honest I have no intention to play it.

I have however played two other MMPORGs.

Tibia, which was a free game, sucky graphics, lots of grind, harsh punishment for death but you could get on in the areas that you could access for free. If you wanted to pay you got access to a heck of a lot more content and I played that game for two years and paid for one year of it. It was actually very cheap and used a tri monthly payment system rather than a mpnthly system. Better yet you could actually get by without having to rely on other players. Oh yeah you got along better if you did team up but not everyone wants to do that.

EVE, now this was closer to what I imagine WOW would be, reliance on other players to succeed, monthly charges, epic grind to get anywhere, and then death at the hands of someone who's been playing since the start if all time and knows EVERYTHING about the game.

These two games taught me that

- I don't like paying for a game in installments
- I don't like grind
- Whilst teaming up is great if you get a good team, the option should be there for you to make a reasonable fist of it if you want to go it alone
- I prefer skill to being a master of 8 million stats. The concept that you could walk in to a game you have never played before and do well is great. None of these games allow that because they all heavily rely on making the player grind for weeks if not months to gain the skills to progress.
