After trying to play Dawn of War online (Soulstorm for those who care) I've found it increasingly difficult to find a game or in fact many players. So my question is do you still play Dawn of War (vanilla or any of the expansions) and if so, what races are your favorite and why are they your favorite.

I play Dark Crusade, and solve your problem of not finding games by playing with a friend. I like to play Necrons because they're overpowered ever so slightly.

(Thay get a huge frigging near-indestructable Monolith)

Yeh, problem is none of my friends have any of the original Dawn of War games. Also, if ever so slightly means walking wall of death then I agree.

I don't, although there are very few RTS games I've ever seriously wanted to try (I'm not very good at them and I want to get better) and Dawn of War is one of them. In fact, every RTS game I've ever really wanted to try except for Men of War has been made by Relic.

I'm an imperial guard type of guy myself, them or Tau. I just like the aesthetic of both. The clean and efficient sheen of the Tau, or the gritty, WW1-esque look of the Guardsmen.
I usually play these two as well. Although I play Tau because I like watching space marines melt from range because of my fire warriors and the Imperial Guard because I like flinging men at something till it falls over.

I have LANs with my friends and this is a game we usually play a lot. I prefer DoW2 but some people don't have it so we play this a lot and is a fun game. Got it off the THQ pack on steam when it was $50, best purchase ever lol

My favorite race to pkay as is Choas/Space Marines or Imperial

Dark Crusade is where i stopped. For me that's where Dawn of War should have stopped since i greatly dislike the sequel.

The Imperial Guard is my favorite. Just the raw stopping power 10 dozen imperial guardsmen firing with grenade launchers peppered in. Massive fire power in the back eliminating enemy support. I love them.

I would only play as Necrons because they were pretty much all I could use online or LAN. When we used to play it heaps, some our matches got that intense that it would our team like 3 of my fully upgraded monoliths (I would always have a few spare ones ready to give the final upgrade whenever my current one died) plus all my soldiers, PLUS my entire team mates army just to destroy their bases. That's when we would realise it wasn't our opponents only base, then he would crush us with an army the same size as ours.

Yeah, the friend we would play against was REALLY good at Dawn of War.

I still fire it up now and then. I chose to stick with Space Marines and polish my game to perfection (relative to my abilities) because it's 1st race everyone gets introduced to via the original campaign so once the "serious" multiplayer began all of my friends immediately decided to go for something more "individualistic". I did allright. :)

I skipped after the first version straight to Soulstorm. I'd like to know why Dark Crusade is better than Soulstorm? (Want to know if I missed something on that game.)

I play Dark Crusade and Soulstorm mainly, but then I only play Soulstorm because the online servers are much more stable, you're not spending 80% of your time online waiting in the lobby to connect to a game.

The thing with Soulstorm is that it felt entirely unfinished, it came under a lot of fire for not being anywhere near as polished as DC, the air units were an unnecessary and extremely buggy addition to the game, the Sisters of Battle and their relic unit was disgustingly overpowered with the ability to resurrect straight after being killed and whilst everything else became fairly balanced, my biggest issue with the game was the fact that even after the Dark Crusade nerfs, Relic in their "almighty" wisdom decided to nerf Chaos into even further oblivion than they were already in.

It's fairly solid gameplay, but the amount of bugs that feature in game, as well as the sheer lack of anything new or innovative just kinda made me feel a bit ripped off when I bought it, it just felt like a half assed expansion pack rather than an actual, climactic finish to the series.

I have all the dawn of wars but still prefer the vanilla version.

After every expansion they gave new units and races and restricted the amount of things you build.

The orks used to be the only race I would lose with in the vanilla version, now there the only ones I can win with, with all the expansions.

You used to be able to build 10 or more kaskrin squads now you can have one or two, IG's normal squads die way to easily, Eldar grav tanks used to light up battlefield with purple explsions now you can build one or two of them.

I used to love it, now everything seems to weak to use. One way of balancing a game, I suppose.

I still play DoW every now and again (Firestorm over Kronus mod for DC ftw!) and I consider it to be a very good RTS.Not sure whether to get the sequel or not

I personally always found that even with her ability to resurrect the Living Saint tended to lose against the Avatar,Bloodthirster or other equivalent.

If you want to talk about overpowered try the Orkz Fighta-Bomba,it's essentially flying artillery that can fight close up.

Unless your playing as the Guard or the Orkz in which case all it takes is a couple of bio-bombs from some Hell Talons and it's bye-bye infantry.

I play Dark Crusade on a regular basis and have found many many games. That and even skirmishes are amazingly awesome fun.

I have only Dark Crusade, but I play it online from time to time. I play Tau, since my only choice was between them and the Necrons, and I like the Tau more.
