I really fear it if it occurs before I've made my life into a rich, awesome and inspiring one

If I died after achieving all I'd ever aspired to do, then I'm cool with it

Of course I fear death. I am a rational, thinking human being. Therefore, I fear death.

No. The fear of death is instinctual, not rational. Like the fear of the dark, you need to get over it eventually, because there's really no point in being afraid beyond some evolution-made basic reaction that's only purpose is in the end to keep the species alive and reprodcing... Something that is not inherently a thing to value.

It doesn't even matter if you are afraid or value your conscious mind too much to not fear death... But the moment you actually kick the bucket you lose those feelings among everything else.
The state of nothingness is unarguably hard to really imagine, I give that, but the beauty of it is that while afterlives in Heavens and Paradises promise to fill all your needs, in real death you won't even have needs. In a way it's much better than anything religion can promise.

The elderly I spoke to when I worked in a nersing home did not fear death. Most were happy and content with how their life turned out.

(peace follow you)

Nothing is certain but death and taxes.

Why should we fear what we know will come.

I'm not scared death, just the pain beforehand to cause my said death(wild bear attack while sky diving XD) but death only scares me when it concerns my loved ones.

Death doesn't scare me. It's getting there that horrifies me. And I fear the death of those I care for.
Same here. Im more worried those around me will go first, leaving me alone...I dont want to do something like that alone...

Then again, I dont want to leave them either. Its tough.

I accept it will happen, but, I want to have some degree of control as to when, where and how

No. I would welcome it. I would be finally over with allergies, asthma, blood pressure problems and frequent month-long diseases. I've been sick for the last month and a half, constant pain, so death would be nothing impressive.

However, I wouldn't want it to be a painful death. Pain isn't the last feeling I would experience.

Death, when my life has run its course, is not scary to me. But Dying way before my time comes does scare. Dying now would scare me because am only 20, am in my first year of college, and there is some many things i want to do, many places i want to go, and many experiences i want to experience. I also would prefer to die in my sleep or a quick, painless death. Not a slow, painful one (e.i. bleeding to death, drowning, throat slit, limb chopped off, etc.) So anyways, dying when my time comes of old age=great, anytime way before then=bad.
Slit throat or bleeding to death are not painful deaths. The first one is pretty fast (unless someone doesn't cut your throat, but your vocal cords - then you die in agony), the other is, well... just sort of passing out. Like when you donate blood or get a 3-hour long nosebleed, only a lot worse. Not painful, but unpleasant. However, drowning or by chopping off limbs is really painful.

Death itself doesn't scare me, but how I die and what happens afterwards does worry me.

Death itself doesn't.
If i went to sleep and didn't wake up again i wouldn't be there to notice it or feel sorry about it. It's not like i want to die, i like my life, but if it ended i wouldn't be there to regret it.

I am sortof scared of the thought of a painfull death though, not scared in teh way that i think about, but when i do, like if i'm reading this thread, i don't like the idea of some 'tard gutting me up and strangling me in my own intestines.

But in the end, death is just something that comes, and unless it's in the form of someone trying to kill me, i can't really fight it. So i'll just enjoy living while i'm still alive and leave it to whoever is left behind to be sad about it when i die some day in teh distant future.

On a second thought, i'm afraid of ending up a perverted ghost, and beeing caught by teh ghostbusters after haunting the girls dance-teams locker room when i'm dead

Not so much death, but knowing that I could die tomorrow scares me basically because I know I am not ready for it.

Everyone in this site's age demographic says they aren't until they look down the barrel. I wasn't either until I was diagnosed with cancer when a massive tumor was pushing on my heart and another rupturing in my intestines, leaving a hole which required emergency surgery.

I got the fear of death in me then, because you start to wonder about the certainty of your opinions about what happens when you do die

Yes and nearly everyone who says no is lying. I do because of the unknown... I mean, I get comfort in my religion and all, but there's always that big "what if" lurking in my mind. I know I shouldn't but I can't help it. It's going to happen so there's no use in fretting over something so trivial but I just can't help it.
