I know ppl have talked about women bin exploited in the media, but im curious if it actually works. I personally dont want to buy a game with a half-naked women on the front bc my family will c it n think im a pervert. Having monsters on the front would cause me to buy a game sooner than sexism... at least then no one would think im n ***hole.

I think it would probably offend female gamers, which from what ive heard make up a large portion o the gaming community, into not buying it.

Please answer based on what you would do, not what you think other would do.

If there's a naked woman on the front, it means it's going to be completely shit and developers try to sell it with boobs/whatever.
So, no. They deserve to go bankrupt.

I don't play games like that anyway, not because of the whole semi-nude women (although I suppose it doesn't help) but because the games that usually have it are beat-em ups or other games that I find boring.

I guess to an extent it would make me less likely to buy it.

I should point out that considering the question in the poll "yes" is not a viable option" as the poll is not asking a yes or no question.

I find 3-D rendered nudity to be disgusting, actually. For a quality experience, the ladies have to be real...

Meh doesn't really affect my judgement. I will say this; I wouldn't abstain from buying a game because of a half-naked woman on the cover.

Also, I originally read this thread title as "Does Exploding Women Help Them Sell (the games)"

I chuckled a little bit thinking of the awful things I did to Moira

Not really. In fact...

*rummages through games*

I don't think I have a single game with a half naked woman on the cover.

Sex sells its a fact, it might not make you buy the game, but it certainly makes you take a second look and thats the point

I buy most of my games on steam, so semi-nudity on the cover is rarely a problem.

No, if there was a half-nude woman on the cover I don't think it would change the difference to whether I buy it or not. Although it would probably make me take a second look.

If there's a half-naked woman on the cover, there's a 99.99% chance that the game is utter crap.

The only game I bought with a lass on the front because she looked good was PN-03 for the gamecube, and that was more because I thought her outfit was awesome than 'sexy'. Our very own Susan Arendt has a PN-03 avatar in fact.

was the box art which attracted my eyes. Fun game, though got a little repetitive.

Does sex sell? In general, yes. That's why people keep putting half naked women on their adverts.

Well, it probably wouldn't make a difference. Since my income is limited to say the least, I tend to research games before buying, so I never have a reason to pay attention.

I'm going to assume a negative impact in a more viable situation, however, since I'm a straight woman with a touch of feminism in her veins.

I instantly assume the game is for macho blokes who want a bit of titillation, even if the game is nothing like it. It just makes me sad when women are exploited in games, and I know it has it's place in media, like films, music and even games. But it could be toned down a little bit I think. If we started making women respectable in games im sure gaming could be taken alot more seriously.

Personally it makes me less likely to buy a game, for several reasons. Firstly, the whole idea of using sex to sell things quite frankly disgusts me. Another being that there's a far higher chance that the game is going to be terrible if they have to resort to that kind of advertising to draw interest to the game in the first place. Oh, and there's also the fact that I still live with my parents, and bringing home games with boxes depicting scantily-clad womenfolk would be well...embarrassing.

It might make some people look twice, but personally all it elicts from me is an exasperated sigh and the rolling of my eyes as they pass over it on the shop shelf.

On the front of the game? They have nothing better to put as a selling point? On the back of the box it says "You gamer types like boobs, right? Here ya go!"

That's ridiculous... heh heh... *nervously glances at games that actually do that*

All I have to say is the well-thought out and meticulously constructed sentence: STUPID STUPID DUMB!
