I recently made a thread talking about the new anime Highschool of the dead and to my surprise I had several people say the the huge boobs and random pantie shots known as Fansevice turned them off from the anime. I thought huge bouncing boobies and up skirt panty shots was all guys could ever ask for? Is it because when they finally get what they want they realise they dont truly want it anymore? or are men loosen their balls? What do you think?

I'm fine with it. Sneaking it in every now and again is no issue. Sometimes it's actually fun to watch an anime that unashamedly flaunts its fanservice, just for shits and giggles.

Well not everyone is a hormone driven 15 year old.
If I'm watching an anime, or anything for that matter, and there is nudity and sexuality for the sake of itself, I find it stupid and annoying. Just get to the story, or the jokes, or the action. That's what I'm watching for.

EDIT:

That is, honestly, freaking scary.
Boobs don't move like that. That's messed up.

Depends. When it's constant, meh. But when it's every once in a while, especially if shown humorously, that's fine by me.

Doesn't really bother me. I guess some people might not like or appreciate fanservice because it's a cheap way to get people to watch your show. Instead of actual content and all that, you've got gratuitous flaunting of select body parts. It makes sense why they do it, but I don't think it should be any show's main selling point because that just means they don't have anything else to offer.

The other day I sat down to watch an anime called Strike Witches 2. It looks interesting enough as I've always been a fan of aviation in any format.
Girls that carried machine guns and had fuselages 'n props for legs...alright that's different I guess. And then "battle" commenced as I lost track of all the gratuitous panty shots. I paused, then resumed it to at least see if it progressed beyond fanservice but it didn't.

I feel it can add some lighthearted comedy elements if done sparingly but if it just goes to gratuitous amounts then...well it's not my thing. Most of the time it's not even sexy, just plain wrong and does no credit to the story really. This tends to give anime as a whole a bad impression for the masses who've never tried it.

Wow, I can't believe you think that YOUR OWN GENDER is that simple minded.

When done in small doses, it can be fun. Besides, every anime needs a beach or hot springs episode. Its an unwritten rule.

I hate fan service. Cartoons aren't sexy, apparently men can't watch anything anymore without their being a token pair of tits in there (I'm suprised more aren't offended) and it makes me feel inadequate.

I don't know that I would say that fanservice bothers me personally, or at least not to a large extent. That said, I do feel that it speaks to the general perception of the immaturity of anime fans. Now don't get me wrong here, if I were to say that I loved anime, it'd be a massive understatement. That said, I think that for people who aren't familiar with the conventions of anime, fanservice is one of those things that reduces anime's credibility as a genuine artistic medium. One of the ways that I always defend anime is by pointing out that it, much more so than western cartooning, is used to tell serious stories with legitimate depth. Fanservice doesn't add anything to that depth, but it does turn people off from considering that depth in the first place from the medium as a whole (again, don't get me wrong here, I definately understand that not all anime series are meant to be deep and meaningful, but some are, for instance Ghost in the Shell or Kino's Journey), and I think it's a shame that this, admitedly immature aspect of anime, is allowed to bring down the credibility of the genre as a whole.

I realize it's not going away, so I'm not going to go getting my metaphorical panties in a bunch over it, but I definately understand why it turns people off to anime, I can't say that I feel that it really adds anything of value, and in my opinion anime would better as a whole without it.

Depends on the show. Normally it doesn't unless it's really overdone or if it pops up a lot in a show that I was watching with my little brother (pre-teen). It's really awkward when the supposedly kid friendly show we've been watching till feels like it's missing on a panty shot quota or something. It's even more awkward if my other (not as young) brother or our parents felt like watching at the exact moment before it started.....

I clicked on the link to this thread thinking we were going to be discussing whether or not developers go too far with making the game tailored to the fans desires.
And now I've just become witness to a terrifying video of an alternate universe where womens breasts have developed angry and violent sentient minds of their own and are attempting to pull free from their former masters to take over the world.

Thanks, I'm going to have nightmares for a VERY long time now...

OT: Yes, to a degree I do find showing up the sexual side of a female character quite annoying, especially when it is entirely possible to imply that a female character has a sexual side without having to have the camera pan up their behinds and have their breasts jiggle like jelly that's been possessed by demons. I mean just have an attractive female character occasionally make flirtatious remarks, we don't need to have them be so ridiculously sexed up that people start to forget that women in the real world don't actually look like that.

So yeah, maybe occasionally it's okay but for the most part it does annoy me somewhat and as that... video aptly demonstrates, there's a little bit too much of it around.

I find it quite annoying. There is nothing worse in my book than watching a serious anime, then suddenly seeing someone accidentally grope someone else, or some such thing. I prefer not to be treated like a hormone addled 14 year-old male, thank you very much.
