I recently made a thread talking about the new anime Highschool of the dead and to my surprise I had several people say the the huge boobs and random pantie shots known as Fansevice turned them off from the anime. I thought huge bouncing boobies and up skirt panty shots was all guys could ever ask for? Is it because when they finally get what they want they realise they dont truly want it anymore? or are men loosen their balls? What do you think?
You should wait until the uncensored episodes come out. Then you won't have 3/4th black screens to put up with all the time.

OT: No. It's just more boring to me than anything else though. It's just there in place of good story, and art in most cases when it comes to anime.

I never cared much about fanservice EXCEPT in HOTD where its totally beyond any sense and context.

So... we're complaining because an anime has a certain stylistic emphasis of the female form?

If it didn't have that, wouldn't it just be a cartoon?

Elfen Lied was a terrific anime but the 'fan service' very nearly ruined it. Whilst the nudity at the very beginning wasn't overtly sexual and fit in with the scene itself, later on it became incessant to the point of being ridiculous. We didn't need Nana having her clothes ripped off when she was attacked, we didn't need the frequent bath scenes or any of that other crap.

If it's optional, then I just don't view it. It's pointless.
If it's shoved in my face, then: Yes, it annoys me.

Sex and sexuality isn't that interesting. Just get on with the story, or the game, or the action, or anything else. If I'm interested in sex, I'll talk to my wife. Otherwise: I don't play games for sexual content, I don't watch anime for sexual content, I don't watch TV or movies for sexual content. Especially needless sexual content with no purpose other then to exist. That's stupid.
Worded perfectly.

I think it's absolutely absurd. There's nothing wrong with having a bit of sexuality in the story if it's relevant for the characters and the plot, but most of the time especially in anime it isn't. It seems like a lot of anime just sexualizes every female character for the sake of sex itself. What's most disturbing to me is that it seems to be getting focused at younger and younger women. I used to like anime, and there are still some anime I enjoy watching now and then, but it's really hard for me to take something like that seriously when they're constantly flashing T&A at me every minute or so. It's a mockery of what sexuality is. I prefer real relationships and interaction with real women. Sure they might not have boobs the size of watermelons on an adolescent body, but... wait a second, why the hell does anyone want something that disturbingly unnatural anyway?

I don't mind it at all. I never experienced an anime with fan service for no reason I don't think. But recently I started watching Welcome to the NHK, which is a great show. I suppose it has fan service, but it is integral to the plot. It shows how lonely Satou is... and how hilarious he is.

I think that it's patronising and insulting. Apparently I, being a simple man, shouldn't be capable of watching anything without naked women to appeal to my reptile brain.

It used too, but I've realized that anime studios are businesses that are out to make a buck, and that they are in no way idiots. They know their audience, and know that the easiest way to make money is by giving them what they want, and they want sexuality. If it's done tastefully, and of course sometimes it can even have artistic meritc (Kannazuki No Miko had it's moments in this regard, although some weren't) or if it's used in a way that advances the plot by allowing a logical moment of explaination or meditation for the characters involved then there is no reason to have an issue with it. Actually Kyoshiro To Towa No Sora (Shattered Angels in North America) is a good example of this. It has quite a few bath scenes but they are used to clarify and advance the plot, as opposed to just showing off the animator's ability to draw naked girls.

It bothers me in the sense that there isn't enough directed towards women. I want to see Marston's testicles bounce all over the place.

Fanservice bugs me because its usually incredibly a blatant way of saying "men only want to see this film for boobs" so the scenes that include them are as subtle as an elephant driving a truck through my house.

I also agree with this, as well as the original post.

Fanservice is great to a point. It should only be included if all the other set pieces (plot, animation, characters) all work great. On top of that, fanservice should feel like it needs to be there. For example, if there is a quiet and reclusive girl in the series, having her suddenly flash her tits is out of character and bad fanservice. But if there is another girl who is the exact opposite, it fits her character and makes it work.

In other words, fanservice is great if used properly and doesn't detract from the rest of the anime in question.

In all honesty I really don't care. If I like a show i'll watch it, if it offends me or annoys the hell out of me i'll press the off button or change the channel.

On the other hand, there are genre's and animé where it's entirely appropriate, and Highschool of the Dead would seem such an Animé to me at least from what I've heard of it (though I haven't checked it out yet).
It's really not appropriate, and you should check it out. Better off reading the manga while you still can though, naturally it's much further along. The series has such awesome characters, art, and the zombies are actually pretty menacing looking. It has such a great sense of drama and horror, the fanservice just makes light of what could have been an awesome realism series. I can't help but feel the author isn't confident that the story could stand on its own two feet without pantyshots.

Anyway, as I said it's all about appropriateness. It's appropriate for a "sexy" character or a humor series. It's not appropriate in something dark and suspenseful. I never understood what was "funny" about fanservice and the perverted jokes in anime anyway. It can be "sexy" sometimes, but I never understood how they got humor out of some of the stupid ways the characters would behave. Faye from Cowboy Bebop, Haruko from FLCL, Yoko from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and Mikuru from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya are examples of good fanservice.

Pretty much all of Ken Akamatsu's work (Love Hina, Mahou Sensei Negima), Ikki Tousen, Eiken, and especially (yes, there is something worse than Eiken) Queen's Blade are not.
