Yes, fan service is completely stupid, and I hate just about any time it's used unnecessarily when I want to get into the story. It's distracting, embarrassing, and if I wanted porn I'd watch porn.
It serves no purpose whatsoever.

Elfen Lied was a terrific anime but the 'fan service' very nearly ruined it. Whilst the nudity at the very beginning wasn't overtly sexual and fit in with the scene itself, later on it became incessant to the point of being ridiculous. We didn't need Nana having her clothes ripped off when she was attacked, we didn't need the frequent bath scenes or any of that other crap.

This is what I had in mind when I made my post. Elfen Lied had ridiculous fan service, and it was all the more annoying because I really liked the story.
I agree with you on the first episode too, it wasn't sexual, it just made it more macabre which I thought added to the whole feel of it being very wrong.
A few episodes later and we have Niu playing with her boobs. Argh.

There's the funny stuff like that thing on the PSN about acid spitting nipples or something, I didn't see it but sounds funny, then there's annoying things, like showing off Yuna's side boob on every possible occasion.

It annoys me to a point. Every now and again, it can be funny, but if it is done like every two seconds, not funny at all.

I mean if I want to see boobies, I'll just go look at real porn, or I'll just look down.

It's a bit silly and over the top at times, but really depends on the anime. Some anime just over does it. It never really deters me from liking the anime any more or less though. Well no, now that I think of it, sometimes it does make me like it more. The Burn Up Excess anime had a "jiggle counter" added to it, at least in the copies I have. Makes me giggle.

A little bit is fine, in so much as that it will actually bring in viewers, meaning that then the animation company will get a larger budget, etc, etc.

More then the absolute smallest amount, and it just gets annoying.

Ciel, a boy, gets his soul ripped out of his body... by being kissed by his demonic butler. Fanservice for girls, but still fanservice, and it fit the show well enough that the mostly male anime club I was in just thought it was well done.

Then it's fine because it fits so well as to not initially feel like fanservice.

Theres only been a handful of anime that Ive seen where the fanservice doesnt damage the anime.

And dont let the 90% of crap that the anime industry releases make you hate it.

I don't care, with three exceptions, all boob-based.
One, if they are quintuple Z cups, then that's an issue. Second, if they keep moving for minutes after the character stops moving. Third, when the move independently to an extent where it is like there are same-pole magnets in each breast and they are trying to escape each other. Cut that shit out.
Otherwise, fucking, go nuts.

I can ignore it when it's infrequent, but when something like... let's say Air Gear happens. It's characterization was weak, it's story was so thin it was damn near transparent and the plot was held together with bailing wire. To solve all that every episode had so much fanservice I guess it just expected you to overlook what a fucking awful show it was.

Anyways, this is why I've recently been watching more Seinen anime as I find it deals with sex much more maturely.

Well fanservice is what ruined FFVII in the eyes of the gaming community and has just become another cash cow and punching bag for disgruntled FF fans of other games. I do not think that FFVII is the best it is just my favourite. All others have their own merits and brought something different and unique to the table so there is no best FF just a persons favourite game of the series.

To be fair a lot of the clips in that video are from a few different hentai, fanservice is pretty much the name of the game there.

As for fanservice in general anime, it doesn't bother me as much as a pointless sex scene in a movie and the like.

1) They are animated. If you are attracted to a cartoon....well, I won't go any further then that.

2) Most men who ask for that, don't watch Anime and those that do tend to want more then just that. They're watching a show, not porn.

It's OK if it's done funnily or in context, but a lot of the times, it's just completely random and unfunny. Like there will just be a random scene where the female characters are groping each other (for no reason at all), or some character will 'slip' and 'oops! panty shot'.

Sometimes it ruins the 'authenticity' of an otherwise good anime. It's a real shame.

I hate fan service. Cartoons aren't sexy, apparently men can't watch anything anymore without their being a token pair of tits in there (I'm suprised more aren't offended) and it makes me feel inadequate.

I recently made a thread talking about the new anime Highschool of the dead and to my surprise I had several people say the the huge boobs and random pantie shots known as Fansevice turned them off from the anime. I thought huge bouncing boobies and up skirt panty shots was all guys could ever ask for? Is it because when they finally get what they want they realise they dont truly want it anymore? or are men loosen their balls? What do you think?

I really dont care about it. I watched that anime. "fanservice" was only made for the comedy relief in that show, but for others, it may be different. But the evil organization we call "Parent Teacher Association" problably got rid of it. And what the fuck do you mean by loosen their balls? Cuz I was able to identify like 80% of the anime in that vid since Ive seen a few clips of them.

But nonetheless its fanservice like that that makes newcomers see anime as retarded.
