Poll: Does Nintendo need to stop making Mario, Zelda, and Metroid games.

They did for a while. Capcom made Zelda games for GBA, Retro Studios made Metroid Prime 1-3, now Team Ninja is doing Metroid Other M, Hal makes Smash Brothers, Donkey Kong was made by Rare. See Nintendo didn't make these games!

I find myself forced to agree with Yahtzee that all Nintendo's Mario/Zelda/Metroid titles are essentially just remakes of their predecessors.

At the same time, I just love the universes they've established so much that I keep coming back for the minor-to-major technical improvements they've made in-between.

Doesnt make him a fan. Just means that it is a really dumb question to ask which I agree with and I don't even like any of those games that much. Those sequels are what is keeping the wii in business to younger audiences.

No. They do need to make a new IP, but notice, they're not really milking their franchises. only immature idiots who hate everything popular say otherwise, really. Milking is making crap just to get money. With Nintendo, most new releases in these old franchises are inspired, well-designed, and truly good games. That's not milking a franchise, it's keeping it alive and well.

Not only that, but there isn't exactly a lot of other games out there to fill the fun platformer or the action/puzzle/adventure genre Mario and Zelda provides. Microsoft could stop making Halo games, but there'd still be dozens of similar style games for people to play. But for those of us that like playing the Nintendo classics, how many other Mario, Zelda, or Metroid type games are there out there if they stopped making them to fill the void?

Stopping Metroid and the less important others is like owning a diamond mine and sealing it up forever after you dig up three diamonds. If something continues to be mindblowjobingly amazing why stop?

mario. unless they can figure out somthing actually new it's time for it to die. metroid....i never really seen them beat metroid into submission the way they did mario but it may be time for metroid too...maybe a metroid rpg on a populated planet with...no sounds like gears of war.
zelda....i'm not sure something new really needs to be done. maybe give link a bad ass upgrade with more agility and was a faster pace. sonic the hedgehog still has greatness somewhere in it but they need to step back. sonic adventure1 was good...except for playing with all the meaningless characters....sonic adventure 2 was better, but knuckles levels got old really fast.....maybe they could bring back hypersonic and get a new villian to replace eggman someone more agile who stands a chance agaist sonic and if u say shadow u should die. (i like shadow but only because his color is black) sonic and the black knight sucked. it had potential but it bombed out.

I guess I'll say this one more time. Maybe when Harmonix and Activision stop making pretend music games (some of which I love, flamers) and EA stops publishing Modern Warfare games (some of which I also love, ya flamers), and when Sega finally stops making Sonic games, and when Final Fantasy games stop featuring Tokyo punk rockers with swords bigger than their own torsos for protagonists, THEN Nintendo should stop making Mario (Galaxy was fantastic and if the sequel is truly a hardcore gamer's game then I can't wait!), Zelda (Twilight Princess was not as original but every bit as polished and thorough as Ocarina, and I'm intrigued by the sequel), Metroid (The Prime Trilogy is unlike any other experience and I can't wait to play MOM), F-Zero (I still have and play GX), Mario Kart (no, no and no. They will never stop making Mario Kart games and these games will never cease to provide some fun between sex breaks with your girlfriend), STARFOX (I don't care if the Bayonetta guy wants to make it, as long as we get another StarFox and Namco isn't allowed anywhere near it), PikMin (still waiting for Numero Tres) or Kid Icarus (will they ever start again? Dammit, Nintendo!).

Um, sorry, I'm normally more verbose than that.
