Haha, only with homework it seems. Though who can do homework when the Zerg are invading!

I played games all throughout grade school and I don't believe it ever hurt my schoolwork. But also my playing was for the most part confined to weekends and days when there wasn't school. Homework always came first and I rarely procrastinated.

Playing video games don't really affect my grades, since I generally stop when I have work to do. Though, as a natural procrastinator, if I can't be bothered doing some work, video games or no video games, I'm not likely to do it... that is, until it's due the next day.

rome: total war, and age of empires helped me in history class... and counter strike definatly helped me in anatomy (hmmm did you know you can shoot someone in the head at point blank with an M4 and they won't die? interesting....)

Depends on what sort of gamer you are. At school I'd always do my homework first then play games, so i did quite well. Now I'm at university I don't have as much time for games, but I'm definitely a procrastinator. When I do play games I play for ages, I've been known to be on Oblivion until three in the morning, even though I'm in the middle of my first year exams now, but it doesn't have as much an effect on me. I'm usually careful not to stay up late (either gaming or clubbing with my friends) before an early exam or lecture. All you need to do is prioritise, make sure you balance gaming, other social activities (as I do), and school/university work (or your job if you work for a living). I see too many stories in the paper of people who spend too long on their games they lose touch with reality or have grades or work performance slip, so you just need to balance it all evenly (admittedly drunken SingStar with my flatmates after clubbing is hilarious).

My grades were fucking top-notch for a while, they sort of slipped down a little when I hit high school, but I don't think gaming had any sort of effect on it.

No. What does affect me is having big projects to do for certain classes (i.e. research paper, poem explication, anything big that's English-related, and Science Fair projects, which I didn't have to do this year, luckily).

You're bound to get a lot of "too many variables" answers when you list so many potential variables.

I voted too many variables because well... there are. Depends on who you are, if you pay attention in class or not, do you do some studying at home or not.

I did well in school because I paid attention in class and learned everything I needed there so I didn't need to study. A good memory also helped. So I was free to play games whenever the hell I liked.

Pay less attention in class then you have to study more at home.

At highschool, I played video games to death on the weekends and during the term breaks because that was the only time I was allowed to do so. Towards the end, when school became more important, I probably played video games even more.

I can remember in my final year of high school, during the exam period, I got out the original Xbox (it was november 2007). Didn't effect my grades in the least. I ended up doing fine, well, in fact, much much better than fine if I can say that without sounding like an immodest prick.

Teachers around the world will hate me for this, but I don't think homework (particularly the typical, useless homework) isn't as important as simply paying attention in class, this dependant on the quality of the teacher of course.

i think the only games that would lower your grades would be mmorpg's you get too involved with them and if your that obssessed you get a false grip on reality

probably study time is the only thing that affects me but i dont really need to study most of the time i still get a reasonable mark

and i totally agree with apple in his last paragraph

Video games don't usually sway my grades, but when I used to play WoW my grades fell quite a bit and I'm still trying to get them back up to what they originally were.

Video games have helped my grades, actually. On more than one ocassion(sp?) they have helped me in my vocab and got me a perfect on the quiz/test.

what do you think is the most grade damaging game of all time (other than WOW)
Any game you become addicted too...
I know that, would you like to expand on that?
do you have any personal games that do that to you?

I play WoW every day, pretty much anyway, for most of the day i'm home from school.
My marks in shcool are some of the best in my classes though, and I'm in top set for everything, and just got an A on my first maths GCSE test (11 marks from A*)
So, i don't think it does.

No, my own laziness, inability to manage my time well and lack of self-discipline affects my grades. If I wasn't skipping Uni for games, I'd be skipping it for something else.
