what do you think is the most grade damaging game of all time (other than WOW)
Any game you become addicted too...
I know that, would you like to expand on that?
do you have any personal games that do that to you?
My point is; there is no big "grade damaging game", what your basically asking is, what is the most played game in recent years - which would be Halo 3.

For me, I find that I replace too much of my daily thinking with games instead of History and English Literature... but even now that I havnt played games for over three weeks, I've just paralleled my thinking to relationships.. (I swear, I'll stop talking about my relationship issues eventually..) So school still suffers. In about three hours, I have a history test. And here I am.

I played games in the run-up to my GCSE's, and I got into college. I'm typing this whilst sat at my university room, so... no, I don't think games adversely affect grades.
Of course, everyone's different. Like someone I went to school with. A month before the final exams started, he went AWOL for three days... the reason?
He'd just bought the game 'Enter The Matrix', and to quote the guy himself, just 'had to finish it'.
He now works full time in asda...

It depends on a lot of things, it doesn<t affect my school so much now because my college courses are jokes.

I played Diablo 2 few years ago, a day before Elementary School test. Got 39/40 points, a lot above school's average.

And last year when I had Middle School exams (2 days of 'em) I was playing Guild Wars. Got 85/100 total. A lot higher than the average, by at least 30 points.

Same goes for the "language" test I had to take to get to the Spanish profiled class. 362/400 points, second highest in the school.

Ding ding ding, study before playing and you win life.

Where is the "nothing changes option?

Video games are actually far better than the other options for just spending time. It feels more rewarding, and time and progress is measurable, so its easier to say, "I will play X levels, then go back to studying."
So, video games actually help my grades.

This is too open to interpritation, this is like asking if who your friends are will affect your grades.

There isn't enough evidence either way to claim any definitive answer.

It all depends on how big of a procrastinator someone is, I know video games hurt my grades because I'm a large procrastinator.

OK, to the forums in general, whenever you put this at the end of an OP I have to repress an urge not to post "f*** right off, is that what we're supposed to do?"

Just don't put it at the end of your posts, it is aggravating to the point of being offensive.

As for the OP (besides that "Discuss" BS) Games like anything impact grades depending on a lot of factors: Do you play games as a self reward for completing homework? do you play brain age? do you play a limited amount of time in a week? Do you play games instead of watching TV?

This can be used as a tool to aid learning, an activity that does nothing to it, or you can play WoW 50 hours a week and fall asleep in sexy nude model figure drawing. It's all relative.

I do think people who play video games score significantly higher on English tests. At least in the Netherlands and other non-English speaking countries developpers never bother to translate their games for (which is a good thing, because Dutch game translations usually suck).

No longer at school but I always did my homework first so I could play my games. Playing games helped my memory, especially when revising for exams. Helped ease tension and allow my brain to soak up imformation from revision material.

Then don't post. No one forced you to post.

No, I'm looking for an opinion on what games have caused your grades to suffer the most. I don't care how old the game is, I just want to know what causes the most distractions or if it causes no distractions or what gaming takes away from school.

The only thing that makes you better or worse at school is how you devote your effort and time. To be really successful (academically) at school you have to put a lot of effort and a lot of time into everything you do there. If you waste time on other things (waste is probably the wrong word) then you won't do as good. That said you need a release, for me thats joining a server and scoring headshots or levelling my dwarf paladin.

So, I wouldn't say video games affect me negatively... but you gotta watch how much time you pour into them as opposed to doing the work.

it doesn't really affect me. as i don't do homework regardless playng videogames has no ill effects and as long as you are focusing in class (which i don't) then your grades should be fine. with that said i still try hard on assignments and tests. the semester i got an award for academic excellence while nearly doubling the amount of games i play.
