It may affect whether I will TRY it. But it will never have an effect on my opinion

It really depends. Most of the time, I like trying to find things before they're popular. But I don't trying something that someone suggest. But I will avoid things like "Twilight" with a passion... simple fact that I don't find romanticizing vampires at all appealing. -beats off hoards of Twilight fangirls (and guys) with a flaming stick-

Oh yeah, I liked N*Sync when THEY were underground.

You liked N*Sync????????

I feel so sorry for you.
There's no need to feel bad for me. I was happy back in the 6th grade. I was allowed to like N*Sync when I was 11. Most girls went through their "Happy pop princess" phase and loved boybands, Britney Spears when she first came out, etc. Hell, I still like 'em now when I feel like delving into my 90's pop section on my iPod. There's nothing wrong with having eclectic taste. But I could easily blow your ears out now with some The Devil Wears Prada or Underoath... Mmmmmmmm... ♥ Christian metal, man.

The problem with popular things is that most of the time they're homogenised to such an extent that they attract enough widespread attention to catch the eye of the impressionable young generation that seems to represent today's fast paced craze market.
Oh, i can like things that are popular, a small minority of things that are pop are genuinely good. But i will be honest and say that i tend to regard anything that has thousands of people talking about it everywhere i go as 'risky'.
Except The Wire. That show is awesome.

Voted option 2, most popular stuff is bollocks, but once in a while, I can find it awright (aviator shades for example :D)... However, I DO make fun of Hot Topic... They took all alternative and turned it into some mass produced commercialistic shit : <

i don't have much money and download or anything, so i rely on reviews to at least point me in the right direction, and get my money's worth.

Popular titles will get my attention first. Simply because ill learn about it one way or another. like TV, radio, newspaper etc. I dont mind it much as long as I dont get bored of over promotion. Wich is exactly what made me hate Kings of Leon.

I admit I sometimes feel a bit of pride when im into something underground. You know, when someone asks what music youve been listening to and you can name a few bands anyone hardly heard of. But I dont like things I like being judged "commercial", like the new prodigy album for example.
i think everyone feels like that. at least you're telling the truth. and on a thread like this, you'll be one of the few.

I really hate it when you like something a lot, and have stuck by it since the beginning, then the mass media picks up on it and swarms it with it's stupidity.
Like with Watchmen, you know? I was too young to read the graphic novel when it came out, but when I was nine, my mother gave me her collection of Watchmen. Imagine that, a nine-year old reading about Watchmen. Well, here we are now. Watchmen is a movie. All my classmates that watched it, were horrified about Jon and his blue penis. Seriously... its rated R for a reason.
Anyway, I'm getting a bit off track here. Basically, my point is I tend to like it, until the stupidity of the masses affects it.

I tend to make own opinions. However, being extreamly popular can skew my opinion, and make somethingmake something average seem like total crap (such as Naruro, Halo, and Twilight).

I'm a man who knows what I like, and what I dislike.

I judge things primarily upon it's genre and content, and then decide if I'll even give it a shot at impressing me.

Sometimes, I go against my iron rule and invest some time in something, regardless of my better judgement (HELLO, TWILIGHT!). Usually this backfires and I am reminded why my rules exist in the first place.

Oh, and for the record? Twilight was a bucket of AIDS sprinkled over a pile of shit stuffed carcasses.

"I tend to be suspicious of popular things, but if it's good, it's good" sums me up quite well. One thing I'd have to add - I can't keep track of all the good popular things that have been completely ruined for me by people going on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about them. Bands, songs, video games, YouTube videos, movies, whatever. People don't seem to understand the words 'saturation' and 'overkill'.

I tend to be really judgemental of just about anything that's really popular. I'm one of those people who can't understand what makes iPods better than the average MP3 player or why Halo is awesome (and no I do not want to be given reasons to explain what makes an iPod better or why Halo is awesome).

in the long run somethings popularity does not have much of an effect in the end.... and depending on what it is can have a positive, or negative feeling to it...

Game: is popular: makes me want to check it out

Iphone: the obsessive buzz around it actually repelled me from interest

but as I said in the end I tend to give it a fair shot regardless of my notions beforehand.

The amount of coverage is what affects me. If I see a commercial/ad/product for it every few minutes, I grow weary of it. But, it does need some coverage, otherwise it's hard to find out about. Every once in a while I'll check something out that I've never heard about, as long as it sounds good, hopefully to fantastic results, but we all know how that goes. But when I get around to playing the high-coverage titles, I try to at least stay objective.

Because of publicity and thus my knowing about it, I tend to try the popular things. It's not simply conformity, it's just what I'm aware of, and some of them have been very good. Half-Life and (please don't brutally murder me) Haruhi, for example, are awesomeness to me.

*hides in impenetrable flying doom fortress to avoid savage beatings for the Haruhi thing*
