does he influence my purchases? yes, somewhat. but is it a direct correlation between his opinion of a game and my decision? not at all. i make use of the information he provides, but i don't base my opinions on his opinions.

I'd have to go with yes, since I have checked out games I never would of simply because he liked them (or even just said they were fun). That being said, I've purchased a fair few games he's roasted, and enjoyed them too.

Generally speaking i agree with his evaluation of the bad points of a game, but his opinions don't make the decision for me, if i think i'll like the game, i'll buty the game, regardless of what yahtzee says. Having said that, i love every word that spews at lightning speed from his hate filled mouth

...I see this topic so much, we get it.....what, every week?

No yahtzee has nothing to do with the games a buy. If he does you're an idiot.
I think it pops up so much because so many people quote him as the end all-be all of gamings criticism on thi site so much. WHich, honestly, does get rather annoying. Someone posts something about a particular game and how the escapist members view it only to get bombarded by 50 links to Yahtzee's review of it.
So many people take his show quite literally ont his forum. I agree with a point here and there in a video review of a game but that is no reason to link the entire video. I definatly dont agree with every single one of his points. But some users post "Yahtzee put it better than I could so here: [LINK]" Basically offering Yahtzee's entire opinion as a mirror image of there own.

So despite so many people probably going to say no in this thread, I think alot of people do. Or at least claim that they do (Often in other threads) so long as it isn't being labeled a "bad" trait, which it is here.

I love watching it because he always points out and destroys all the parts of the game where I think to myself 'Am I the only one who notices that this is absolutely retarded?'
Take his last one for instance. With the guy in black ops where you stick glass in his mouth, and punch him in the face causing pain to a fictional character that made me cringe. Then he's just all suddenly 'Oh hey it seems another problem has come up, let me help you guys out! Here's some free guns and I'll guide you through all these rooftops. No hard feelings huh?'
Seriously. WTF?
But the 'reviews' amuse me more then anything. If anyone gets butt-hurt enough to not purchase it now or take what he says seriously, come on. Try thinking on your own instead of letting people tell you what to buy.

My favourite thing is when people complain about how shoddy his "review" is when he doesn't mention aspects of the game, so they're still unsure of whether or not to buy it.

They don't post his videos in the reviews section for a reason y'know.

No. His "reviews" are for entertainment purposes only (as a lot of the time I end up disagreeing with him anyways)

short answer no

long answer, after he said James from silent hill 2 was an endearing character i just concluded we're from different planes of gaming existence all together (personally i find it hard to like a character who does stupid shit without good reason, James certainly qualifies for this)

the other thing is, and yes i'm gonna drag this out, HE DOESN'T TAKE THE MULTIPLAYER PART OF A GAME IN TO CONSIDERATION

that's the equivalent of saying the roman empire was complete and utter fail in the 400th century cuz you completely ignore the eastern part of that empire

Well, it was him that made me buy BioShock and Psychonauts. He can't make me NOT buy a game, but he can make buy a game.

Nope, and the fact that anyone does is what stops me from enjoying Zero Punctuation. I can't fault anyone for liking it since they certainly have entertainment value. It's just painful to see people commenting on how Zero Punctuation "saved" them from buying something awesome. I know it's satire, but it perpetuate attitudes about gaming I see as very negative, such as how it's cool to hate the entire JRPG genre. Maybe seeing people skipping Valkyria Chronicles and the Witcher over his opinions has made me a bitter little RPG fan, and I should just enjoy the fun and stop reading the comments. They seem to sour the whole thing for me.

no, but not so much because he's a satirist, but because his tastes are just different than mine. He loves PoP sands of time and the thief games and hates Halo and Borderlands, and just gives really mixed messages on games like Fallout. Ofcourse he also thinks that a game with a campaign should be able to stand up on it's own regardless if the multiplayer is actually the main focus, which really is just silly...but he's entitled to his opinion. He makes internet funny, and that's really all I expect/want out of his videos.

lol hell no. Sure I watch just about every episode, but I watch them for thier comedic value.

I learnt very early on to take his reviews with a heaping pile of salt for good measure.

No, not really. He is a comedian, not a professional reviewer. Good for a laugh, but not for a serious review. It would be like taking movie buying advice from MovieBob instead of Roger Ebert.
I have to disagree ... Bob has sent me to movies that I would not have otherwise attended. Sherlock Holmes was a movie that I had zero interest in seeing ... I mean, really ... did we seriously need another Holmes movie ... I had no intention of going. As it turns out, for me, that would have been a terrible loss.

As for Yahtzee the same is true ... a bad review does not preclude my purchace but a positive one means that I will give it a second look.

You don't have to agree with reasoning, if his points are valid then they're valid, just accept that he's deliberately packing all the shitty parts of his experience into the review.

when i am not sure wether i want a certain game i take his advice but only as to what i could expect from it. If he talks about something gamebreaking then it´s a pass. but if it´s a game i realy want i can know about the imperfections before hand and they somehow don´t irritade me as much as it otherwise would becouse ZP had already told me about them

Most reviews fail to influence my opinion on a game. Although he is accurate on the criticisms he picks up on within games.

However, when Yahtzee recommends a game instead of ripping it to pieces, I will definitely check it out. A prime example would be Psychonauts, which I enjoyed immensely.

He seems to share some of my favourite past titles though, like Silent Hill 2, so if he does completely tear a game a new one I'll make sure to clarify how bad it truly is before shelling out my hard earned cash.

Following Yahtzee's opinion would probably save you one hell of a lot of cash, and is preferable to following the opinions of certain other "professional" review sites, which seem to class nearly every big release as a glittering diamond of a game.

Well, seeing as Yahtzee's review usually get published way after I bought (and in most cases already like) the game, I guess he doesn't influence my opinion.
Wait, I bought the Orange Box after I saw his review... So maybe he does, I don't know. I think it was just (in this case) the fact that a reviewer who seems to find something negative about almost any game didn't find anything against Portal, and the Box was just 5? more expensive than the single game. Not that Half-Life 2 was bad, it was great. I was just slightly biased against it because I hated the first part.

Of course, most games he rips apart are games I wouldn't have bought anyway, so he just reinforces my opinion about those. Especially JRPGs, I could almost forgive his negative review of Two Worlds for the hate he shows against JRPGs.

His reviews usually come far to late for me to make a decision. I usually already have the game before he reviews them.
