Why do you care so much? I gave his work a try, decided I didn't care for him or his work and moved on.

Do you seriously take the time to give every article author a large reading just to feel that your opinions are justified? Must be nice to have that kind of time on your hands.

I pointed out that I don't like him. If you do, that's good for you, I guess. Why does my opinion of him mean so much to you?
Mostly just because you're being such an ass about it, honestly, pretending to be an expert on a guy's entire body of work by reading one article that was poorly-received even by the people who call themselves fans of his work. That and it's pretty adorable how riled up I can get you on one-statement replies.
Where did I pretend to be an expert, I stated my opinion. That's all. I'm so sorry you're incapable of making the leap from a statement like "He's an arrogant ass" to understanding that is only my opinion. I never said I was an expert. I said I, personally, don't enjoy his work.

And I'm not riled up. Replying to gives me an excuse to not work on other things I'm not really wanting to work on.

How cute, you can barely read too. I never said your opinion wasn't your opinion. That was fairly obvious when it was an opinion and you said it. I'm just pointing out that you're (still) claiming to know everything about not only everything this guy's work will have to offer you and but his own personality as well... from one article. It's endearing.

I bought Saints Row 2 because I saw it in store after seeing his review and thought "why not?" (the £6.99 price tag helped too). Other than that, not really. Still hilarious seeing that people think there somehow superior because they don't. And you call Yahtzee arrogant?

I assumed that's what you were saying because I was having a hard time believing that anyone could be so obtuse as to expect people to embrace large portions of someone's work before forming an opinion of him.

His articles never piqued my interest. I finally read one just to see if he was really worth the time, and I discovered that he wasn't. It's really very sad that you seem to be unable to form any kind of opinion without wasting a great deal of your time. Did you have to watch an entire season of Jersey Shore to realize that it's crap? I didn't care for his writing style, or his tone. Added in with the bits of his work I've seen mentioned by other people, and I decided that his work wasn't for me.

I weep for a generation that thinks that spending more than five minutes doing something before writing it off forever is considered an insurmountable task. Your world must be very lonely and stagnant.

This got me thinking. I love Zero Punctuation as much as the next guy does, but I would never have thought that his 'opinions' are taken seriously! People buying with his list must have pretty small libraries...

So, what about you guys? Does this influence your opinions?

EDIT: I seem to have some sort of phantom, invisible poll here. sorry.
No I don't take his reviews seriously but mostly because I'm even pickier than he is: there are very few games (maybe 2 or 3 if we're really lucky) that come out every year that I personally think are actually worth the launch price.
For example, he gave a glowing review for No More Heroes while I think it's probably one of the most overrated games of this gen.
And yes, I have a relatively small game library, but I do have more money. And with the rental service, I get to try out a broad spectrum of what's out there; even just to confirm for myself that most of what gets released is crap.
So I look at all game reviews as purely entertainment (lets face it, most of these "critics" have terrible taste) and Zero Punctuation reviews are definitely the most entertaining.

No yahtzee has nothing to do with the games a buy. If he does you're an idiot.

No, because he is not a reviewer in my mind. He just takes a game and rags on it for 5 minutes.
I would argue against these points vehemently. Yes Yahtzee is a comedian, but historically, comedians have been some of the greatest tellers of truth ever. It's actually an advantage that he cracks jokes about the games, because then we take the whole thing as what it is: an opinion, not a fact. Just like every other review on the planet.

And moreso, Yahtzee is always known to be harsh, so I can actually get a better idea of the overall games capabilities by how much it does wrong rather what it does right. Both sides of the nitpicking coin, eh?

And to be honest, overall his amount of jokes are really only about 50% higher than what you would normally see in most "serious" reviews. The only major difference IMO between Yahtzee's reviews and the things you see on IGN and Gamespot is that he does it in Flash format instead of type.

I don't base if I buy a game or not on his reviews, though I find that he is right on the mark with his reviews.

You would be incorrect. I hardly have enough time to keep up with the various sites I keep abreast of, books that I read, games that I play, movies I watch, etc etc etc. It's not that it's an insurmountable task, it's that my life is not lacking for not being overly familiar with Yahtzee. I have many other things to spend time on, and would rather spend my time doing those things than trying to see if one self-important (and yes, this is an educated opinion of him based not only on the one article, but in looking at his Twitter feed, and seeing how he engages with others) blogger.

Yes, I'll occasionally reply to small little trolls on the internet, but I don't waste much time with it, and doing so allows me to collect my thoughts on my primary task. It's cute how you think your opinion matters to me, and that you're not just filling a need for a little distraction.

My oh my, and now you even attempt to dissect my motivations as well. Because clearly since you post these things totally to amuse only yourself, it's completely impossible for anybody to do the same. Your powers of clairvoyance never cease to amaze.

I find myself to agree with him on quite a few games, but he doesn't exactly turn me away from games, mostly because I go into a game expecting it sucks. I usually don't buy the games until I tried them beforehand. He has gotten me to buy games before, namely Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Painkiller. Overall, any reviewer doesn't affect my opinion because, well, I can find games most reviewers complain about fun, like N3II or Evil Dead, and I can find games with good reviews boring as hell, namely Dead Space and Halo...but especially Dead Space.

No, it doesn't affect my game purchases at all. I watch his reviews for the funny bit not as an actual in-depth review...I have X-PLAY for that.

From your posts, it's pretty clear to see that you're little more than a common troll. Your condescending comments, dissecting and offering your so-called pity about my "empty" life.

My guess is that you're one of Yahtzee's insufferable fanboys, and you are just tied in a knot because I don't share your hero worship of him. Why else would you care so much?

If you're making this assertion, you clearly didn't read all the posts I've made in this thread. Good effort, though.

Not really. He doesn't deter me from buying games. If I think that a game looks interesting I'll give it a try. I can't remember all the times I've pointed the back of my middle finger at the screen and uttered a silent "fuck you" during a ZP review. But in the rare instance there's a game where he makes special mention of how good it is, I still might consider giving it a try just for that reason.

It's not that, they just don't understand what Zero Punctuation is for.

OT: No, UNLESS he actually recommends something.

Not really no

If he likes it too then great but as long as I enjoy it why should I care that he doesn't?
