I don't really see how I could incorporate Soul and Black Star from Soul Eater bleeding profusely into my comments...

When I read a post, the avatar often sets the tone of how I read it.

If I find the picture obnoxious, that causes similar undertones to the post. If I find it amusing, it might make the post seem more jovial.

I can't help it.

Plus it also works the other way. If someone is pretty stuck-up, I begin to associate that picture with that attitude. So if someone else shares their avatar with that person, I find myself tarring them with the same brush.

I can't imagine how mine comes across. :/

It is quite entertaining because it doesn't fit what you type at all haha, keep it!

On topic, anybody who voted "no" is lying to themselves. Maybe you don't notice it, but subconciously, it has too. Human beings have evolved into extremely judgemental creatures because back in ancient days, we had to make quick judgements on how threatening something was so we could save our lives. Therefore, we are always making quick, first impression judgements, even if we don't realize. That's part of why everyone is so nice to attractive people.

And you can't tell me that if you see a guy with an awesome avatar of some character that you love dearly, you look at him the same as if you see a guy with an avatar of a penis or something. No way.

There as this one time a user named HeyJoe got away with some kind of thread which his post entirely consisted thus:

The avatar makes it, does it not?

Took a bit to find the post. It's a bit old. It's funnier still that he got away with such a trite post without being put on probation. Then again, those were older funner days.

Any resemblance is purely coincidental.

So I found myself in a couple of situations recently where I believe somebody's avatar effected me.

In one, somebody made a semi-smug comment, something I don't think would have annoyed me as much normally. But thier avatar was this blond guy with his chin upturned and a smug smile on his face.

Another time somebody made a very serious remark which was also enhanced by a creepy faced Anime girl with a blank expression.

So my question is do the avatars we use influence the interpretation of our words? Would someone be surprised or put off if I used cutsey talk with my avatar looking the way it does? Do people lean towards certain avatars that reflect thier comments?

In a way yes, mainly because my Avatar reflects me. Deranged, polite, witty and a bit malicious here and there. All in all it's more of who I am that affects my post. My avatar is just a visual aid to do so.

No. I stick to the text because usually someone's avatar & badges, et cetera, are irrelevant to the topic at hand.

People may see me as a fanboy, I guess. I mean, it doesn't help if I'm ever defending a Valve game.

That isn't to say I'm not a fanboy...

OK, someone on this recently reffered to Jack and Calumon as "Jack and Failmon".

Now, I can't quote you because this fascist police state glorious sanctuary of knowledge known as the Escapist deemed it neccesary to place you under probation. I can, however, salute you.

Not that I condone your violent, delinquent behavior. I naturally consider your post to be a disgusting blemish on the walls of these otherwise beautiful forums.

OT: Sure, sometimes. I have to admit, I'm more likely to dislike you if you have an avatar that is either a meme or anime. That includes, JUST FOR EXAMPLE, Digimon.

Unless I know what the person looks like I usually imagine their avatars saying the words (and in the subsequent accents), and considering the fact that avatars are usually a display of interests and/or personality then 9 times out of ten it usually fits so I don't find myself confused by the disconnect between what someone's typing and their avatar.

As for my avatar, well I like to smile and I have short hair (and I love the game Scary Girl) so I don't see a disconnect (mind you my first avvy was a horrible Navi one from phantom hourglass, THERE I noticed a disconnect and ended up changing it to this one early on).

More than once people have told me that they read my post in Tali's voice... and they've been disturbed, I say things that Tali wouldn't (I think)

Other people's avatars don't influence how I read their posts, though.

I wonder what my Avatar makes my posts sound like. The world may never know.

Depends on the comment I suppose.

I...I just read that in Tali's voice.
Little weird hearing her refer to herself in the third person too.

---

OT: I'd like to believe that my avatar makes people read my posts in a slightly feminine, thong-lodged-uncomfortably-far-up-arse kind of voice, purely because considering half of the things I post, it would probably blow someone's mind with the weirdness.

Would this happen to have been me? :O
