I don't really celebrate my birthday anymore.
I have some family members come over to my house and give me cards, but I don't have parties anymore.

All of my parties have always ended up being kind of...boring.

I don't make a big deal out of my birthday. It usually winds up being just another day for me. Sure, I get the chance to take a break from my savings plan, pull out some cash, and go get myself something nice for a change, but I wish my birthday was a litte more eventful sometimes. Still, I've got my friends at college, and we can always go hang out and have fun any time we want to, so what's another day out of the year?

EDIT: Other people's birthdays are cool, though. I like trying to look for cool stuff to get them, and the free food (that is, food I don't have to pay for) is a plus.

Think of it not as another step towards death, but a milestone to look back at what you have achieved.

Think about "It's a wonderful life".

George makes a difference in a lot of areas, think about the differences you have made through your choices and celebrate your existence with the people you enjoy and care most about.
I suppose that's possible, though you can celebrate having a wonderful every single day.

If I would actually have achieved anything, or have a wonderful life that's worth celebrating. Which I have not. Absolutely nothing really. Neither have I made some sort of difference or impact that's worth celebrating.

There's just nothing to celebrate.

I dislike birthdays. Others and my own. I'm not quite sure why. I guess I don't like getting the attention and praise for living another year. And I don't like other people's birthdays because there's too many of them and buying good presents is stressful and difficult.

Ideally, it'll be just another day. I don't even tell people my birthday date, just makes the day awkward. I wish I could erase the date from the minds of my relatives, too, every year the same dull lines repeating themselves over and over again.

I try not to celebrate my birthday, but my friends and family always insist. I usually go to dinner with my family, and party the night away with my friends.

I don't tell people when my birthday is, though. The friends that do know when it is have known me for 10+ years. The others just like to party.

I gave up on birthday parties after my 18 th birthday, because they're just too expensive(unlike in civilised countries, here customs state that the birthday boy has to pay for every little expense).

I really feel that my birthday is special; I mean it's the day I was born.

Technically speaking it's the day I begin a new year(from my point of view), so I consider it far more important then most holidays (it's even more important that New Year's Eve!)

I like the free money and stuff. That's pretty cool. It's like "Hey, you aren't dead yet, so have this!"

When you're old enough to drink birthdays become a lot more fun. Plus you get presents! How can you not like that?!

It's just another day to me. Most the time I wish people would forget it but that never seems to happen.

The last option in the poll sums up my feeling towards them quite well: A birthday is just one year closer to my death so its a little depressing. I feel sad if anything on the 21st of January thinking about this.

I think certain birthdays matter. Maybe every ten years, your 18th, 21st, and the ones where you are obscenely old, like after you're 80.

But other then that, its just a family gathering for me.

In my books, celebrating an actual real person is better than celebrating for example:
the planet going a full circle
Jesus
workers unions
the sun
Jesus again

While I don't crave any kind of presents, I like going out and having fun. I try to remember the birthdays of my closest friends, and offer to buy a pint or two on their birthdays, because I can't think of a better reason to celebrate, than my friends.

I went all mooshy there. So what? Go die in a fire!

It's a day that gives you an excuse to relax a little. Do something special that you like, let your hair down and other such metaphors.
I don't go throwing any massive parties or anything, but since I don't get out very much, it's nice to have an excuse to spend an evening with pals eating pizza, playing games and being generally unhealthy.

So, yeah. I like my birthday as something to look forward to. Plus, presents. Sure it's greedy, but that doesn't stop me requesting a free game every year.
