An opt-out policy sounds great to me.

You still aren't forced, and can opt-out.

The only catch being, if you die young, and haven't had a chance to choose whether or not to opt-out, the family should be allowed to say no.

It sounds like a good idea, but I imagine most people want to be buried intact, rather than missing a few bits.
Can't really see why, seeing as you don't take anything with you anyway. And organ donation (even skin donation) still leaves enough of the body to have a open casket funeral.

OT: Yes, I am an organ donor. Also a blood donor.

I have basicly the same opinion as the guy you quoted, opt out default in.
Apathy is killing people, let apathy be what saves them instead.

In favor by default. I'm dead! I won't exactly know or give a damn about what happens to my body.

For the record, I'd rather go with a viking funeral or cremation so if the choice is between donating or turning in to ash, I'm all for donating. Doubt my lungs, heart or liver would be good for anyone but if someone can keep on living with them, why not?

I've read that the tampering with one's body (mutilation and stuff like that which would apply with organ donating) keeps one from entering heaven in some religions (can't remember which since there were quite a few) but I for one, don't see the relevance.

No-one should be forced to donate if they don't want to. Call me selfish, call me callous but I don't care if my heart or liver or kidney could be used to save someone's life; it was mine when I was alive and I want it to be mine when I'm dead. I gone to give blood many a time because I had a blood tansfusion that saved my life; but unfortunately being anaemic I can't give blood. I would and I want to, but can't. As for my organs? I don't owe anyone anything.

I honestly believe that a default in; opt out policy is wrong. People who want to donate need to make the active choice. Those who choose to opt out shouldn't have to face the glares of
self- righteous donors.

It's the way it works where i live. All citizens are automatically registered, except for those under 18 and muslims, who are opposed from doing so due to religous reasons.

If you want, you can of course opt out. I think that its a great system. Honestly, i believe that most people would (or would not mind to) donate their organs after they die, but the problem is that they are too lazy, or cant be bothered to find a proper place to sign up. With an auto-opt in policy however, these people no longer have to do anything to donate their organs, it saves them alot of the hassle and its saves alot of people's lives.

And of course, if someone is truly opposed to donating their organ, whatever the reason, they should be more than happy to fill up a short form saying they want to opt out.
