Behold peons, I have been dispatched once more from atop Mt. Doom to bring you...

What?

Not an official Injustice League thread?... So I don't need to do all the posturing and such? But it is part of a wider Injustice League project?

Okay then!

We at the Injustice League have undertaken a new initiative to liven up the forums. Every wednesday we will be here with more light and enjoyable threads than the current sea of sexism and venomous console war threads. Some of our members have even been lamenting the now legendary drowning threads.

So with that I ask, do you prefer Duke or Doom? I'm mostly interested in the old DOS iterations, none of this 3D rubbish and certainly no Doom 3.

This came to me as I recently picked up the Doom 3 BFG edition for PC for like £3 on a whim and reminded myself how friggin awesome Doom is by playing a lot of Doom. I then played Duke 3D....

Needless to say Duke 3D has not aged anywhere near as well as Doom. It doesn't feel as fluid and the action is not as enjoyable, nor is the music as memorable or charming in that terrible early 90's midi way.

So for me? Doom all the way.

How about the rest of you?

I prefer Doom as I played it extensively as a kid (in fact, my eyes are still strained from playing it late on school nights) on the SNES and I recently got it on Xbox LIVE Arcade and have been playing against my cousin.

Only Duke game I played as a kid was Duke Nukem: Land of the Babes (because that is such a good game for an 8 year old to play right?) and that game was hard as balls (or maybe I just sucked)
Dude... this is stuck in my head forever:

I love me some Doom. I played it on the PC as a kid though as I didn't have the mega drive version but we did have a reasonably good PC at the time.

You only dislike the Duke because you lack the Balls of Steel to deal with his awesomeness.

I bet his manliness makes your already tiny manbits shrivel up and die without reproducing like the Pinta Island Tortoise.
Doomguy may have fought his way into and out of hell but the Duke did the same while also saving all the Babes, and all he had was a boot and an empty pack of gum.

The quiet and sad cries of your receding genitalia in the face of such a sexy, manly, testosterone infused Adonis only amuses the Duke.

So yeah, I think my vote is obvious.
Its Doom all day everyday.

Nah. If I turned around too fast near Duke I'd knock his fucking head off with my dick and you know it.

And yes. Doom is superior.

I actually just think Duke 3D has aged poorly, it's really not very fun to play now compared to Doom.

Your double ended black dildo doesn't count as a dick and you know it.

I agree. I still have lots of fun with Duke 3D but I grew up on Doom and it just seems to have more lasting appeal to me.

Depends.
I'm not a fan of any iteration of the older Dooms, (I have played them all, and while fun they just didn't leave any impression on me) however I really love Doom 64.

As far as Duke, Duke Nukem 3-D/64 is just an absolute blast for me.

So..both, depending on which game(s) we're referring to.

Though I enjoy Heretic/Hexen more than either of them.

Since Wolfenstein 3D was one of the first games I ever played, it'll always hold a special place in my heart. I actually didn't get around to playing Doom until my first year of college. Doom is the better game, but Wolfenstein just has those childhood memories:

Mecha-Hitler. Disco dancing zombies with pistol in their chests. Phantom Hitlers... Oh those were the days.

As much as I love Duke Nukem as a character, I always see Doom as the superior game.
Doom is for when you want balls-to-the-wall action and Duke tries to imitate that but breaks it up with too much faffing around in the form of background objects, movie references and switch puzzles. Plus, Doom has the benefit of being much more mod-friendly than Duke 3D allowing for awesome shit like this to happen!

That ship sailed years ago... but I was more fond of Duke Nukem I guess.. never really played Doom that much save for the Third, which was the last.

Duke 3D has a lot of things going for it, like its sense of humor, the better weapon variety, more varied locations and one kick-ass theme song.

But in the end it all comes down to gameplay and that goes to Doom. It's design is IMO simply more timeless.

Doom all the way, baby. I've never actually played any Duke games, so I have no attachment to the character.
How can you not love the first level's theme?

What's the point of making secret plans if you tell everyone about them! xD

We may as well just broadcast all the Injustice League meetings as well XD

OT: I much prefer Doom, but to be honest I've never really played much of either.

Of what I have played Doom just felt... better. Not very helpful I know, but whatever XD

Doom for me.

Duke3D was Doom with a few gimmicks added, and lots of puerile rubbish that's really embarrassing once you are out of your teens. Now, some of the gimmicks were nice, but they weren't used well. Doom, and especially Doom2 took what it had and used it well.

But...Doom was the first, the groundbreaker. There was Doom or there was nothing. When Duke3d came around, lots of people were making Doom clones, Duke3D wasn't really that special.

Doom. Old Duke was fine, the new one has given the series a bad mark against it. An i didnt like the last Wolfenstein game, one of the few games i stopped playing cos i thought it crap and not fun.

I've grown up with Doom but it doesn't mean i don't like Duke Nukem. a friend had Time to Kill and that was my first experience with Duke.
