I surely can't be the only person that picked up the BFG edition to play the Doom 3 I never got around to and played the shit out of Doom 1 and 2 again?

I highly recommend doing so btw. They really hold up.
No I did too, on PS3 for xmas, Doom 3 on PS3 does not control very well it's rather sticky and stiff.

Then I saw it dirt cheap for PC. So I've been playing it recently.

The originals work buttery smooth on the PS3 though. Doom splitscreen, so fun!

Duke 3D is my favourite FPS from the 90s. IMO it's amazing.
The weapon variety was great and the level design was fantastic.

To the point, I feel nothing but Fremdschämen for this whole "Injustice League" thing. You guys can do what you want, but I don't have to like it. I thought we'd have learned our lesson on cliques and sub-groups here from PRIATE and Asylum Open Mic, but apparently we haven't.
We've been around for a long time we just have spurts of activity. You don't have to like it, you are correct. If you don't like it that's fine. To each their own, but we can have our fun. As can the Brovengers, but they haven't seemingly had a project on the forum for a while..

Duke, has to be - used to play multiplayer every lunchtime, damn good fun. For me, the traps and stuff made it a more interesting game. We'd play Doom as well of course, and Descent, StarCraft, Worms, ROTT... all the classics :)

Yeah! - the 4-player mode is especially good. Moreover, it works on the 360 and is far better than the XBL version of Doom. I would happily play through Doom again, some games never get old, especially with old school split screen mode and a high difficulty setting.

Ouch, that's a hard choice.
Despite the fact that Duke is undoubtedly one of my favorite video game characters, I think Doom is probably a better series overall.

Back in the day I greatly enjoyed Doom, Duke 3D and Wolfenstein 3D. But it's Doom that I keep coming back to whenever I need a retro fix. Wolfenstein is primitive and doesn't have much variety in weapons or enemies. Duke is a bit gimmicky. Doom just plays better IMO.

Geez, this thread is just as bad as the ones where people insist the only reason anyone cared about the old Tomb Raider games was the boobs. I like Doom, but Duke Nukem 3D blows away both Doom and Doom 2. It's got better level design, more varied gameplay, more interesting weapons, more interesting characters (or enemies, at any rate), and a sense of humor to boot. All modern level designers should be forced to study Duke 3D and Dark Forces to see how it's done. Both games avoided being pointless mazes (which is something Doom had problems with) while also avoiding the modern problem where the whole game is just one long corridor, where if there's ever a branch at all, you know one path takes you to an item, and the other to the end of the level. So yeah, you may not /always/ be able to bet on the Duke, but I'd take his best outing over Doomguy's.

Edit: And then I clicked on the wrong option in the poll and voted for Doom, like an idiot. I wish this forum had a way to change your vote on something.

I'm gonna have to say Duke.

I liked Doom and Wolfenstein... but neither of them really had the same kind of impact on me that Duke Nukem 3D had. Compared to Duke Nukem 3D, Doom and Wolfenstein had way less interesting level design, less interesting enemy design, less interesting weaponry, and they were completely void of the low-brow humor that my much-younger self thought was hilarious.

As for the music... sure, Doom had a great and memorable soundtrack... but Duke had his theme covered by Megadeth... so... point for Duke in my opinion.

Doom, no doubt.

I love Duke Nukem 3D as much as a lot of people out there. But when it comes to which one of the two is truly the superior game Doom wins by a landslide. It's just more fluid, more well designed, more memorable in its enemies and soundtrack and levels. Yeah, it may not have the humor or charm that Duke 3D has, but considering I've only played through Duke 3D once but have replayed Doom too many times to count... yeah, Doom just wins. Hands down.

I have all these games and think Doom is more fun, in fact, I might play it now.

Doom. Doom today, Doom tomorrow, and Doom the day after. A Doom in every pot, and a Doom in every garage.

Specifically Doom 2 and Final Doom. I need my double barrel. Hell, that's all I ever use. Screw the BFG, it's more fun to run up to a Cyberdemon with a double barrel shotgun, blast him, and run off before he blows your ass up and then rinse and repeat.

...I need to go play Doom. Nobody open the door.

I really enjoyed both when I was young, probably still really enjoy them now since I haven't played them for ages. However, for some reason Doom stuck with me longer.

While Duke introduced me to a censor my Dad put on the game in which I easily guessed the password in one try so I could pay women to 'jiggle it'. Doom scared the fuck out of me with some of the textures and sounds, while also confusing the hell out of me with some of the map designs. That's not a negative by the way, I really love a good challenge, though I reached a point where I just found it impossible, and that's when I learned about cheats because I brought it up in school.

Neither. I'm a Wolfenstein fanatic. I'll take the Nazi-killing action of B.J. Blazkowicz any day over Doom and Duke. Thanks for putting it in the poll. Looking forward to New Order.

To be completely honest with you, I've never really played either of them. I was always more familiar with the clones: Hexen and Blood. I did play a couple of the later Duke games though, Land of the Babes and Time to Kill, as well as Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

I'd guess from the early games though, from what I've seen, I'd have to say Duke 3D, since it seems very similar to how Hexen plays. Can't be too sure, though.

Doom, because highly mod friendly and because Doomguy is silent outside of pain and death noises. Also Duke comes off as a Hollywood chauvinist with a massive ego which turns me off deeply.

Doom is great, I played it loads as a kid.
...But Duke 3D is amazing, one of my all time favorites, I still play it very regularly.
