Some doomsayers are saying the world is going to end December 22, 2012. I, for one dont believe that, I dont believe there will be a revelation of any sort. I DO believe there is a comet headed our way, but I dont believe it will strike us or come anywhere near us for that matter. I believe this will be like the year 2000, just another turn of another calendar.

Now, there are several theories on what will happen in 2012, and I will try to touch on and contradict the ones I rememer.

The core will reverse, the earth will spin backward, and/or the magnetic polarities will change, sparking massive worldwide storms wiping out the population of the planet:
No! why in god's name would the core or earth start revolving in the opposite direction, thats like saying a spinning quarter will spontaneously start turning the other direction without outside interference!
As for the magnetic polarities changing and rather than repelling harmful solar rays and other such things: Last time I checked, a magnet is a magnet. South will attract north, and vice versa, it doesnt matter if the earth switches polarities (some say due to the core reversing), it will always have a magnetic field that helps protect us. Unless of course these harmful things in space have some kind of magnetic polarity. But, I highly doubt that considering the southern half of the earth isnt any more unprotected than the north.

The comet, as nostradamus calls "Nibiru" (IIRC) may or may not be the Planet X NASA discovered back in 2001 I think it was. If it is, GREAT! we will see a comet that hasnt been seen since around 3000BC! Will it hit us? probably not, if it does, oh well, it'll be quick. But according to some historical documents, this comet is apparently so large it will be like having a second sun. I want to have a child before this day comes just so he or she can possibly see, and remember this comet.

Rapid Evolution:
What? Since when was evolution instant? Healing can happen in as little as a few minutes, but evolution takes many, many years in some cases, and in most, millions of years.

Aliens/God will transcend upon us, and take us to a higher sense of self-being.
Sounds like a cult to me, this sometimes also involves the comet. Basically we are nearing the center of our galaxy and the "galactic counsil" will take us in to be judged as a species and possibly let in to the federation. Now, I cant really contradict this because there is no SOLID proof that there actually is life out there. I like to think there is because what are the chances that we were the only ones out of trillions of stars and their solar systems, to form into living, conscious beings? However some say the comet is (paraphrasing the following) "bus that will take us to a higher being". So, essentially we have to "catch the comet" and ride it to the galactic center? umm... Does anyone remember the cult that all committed suicide wearing sweat shirts and pants to "catch up to the mother ship"? Cant remember what they were called. This theory actually kind of goes hand in hand with the mormon religion, hence why I find the mormon religion to be *more* believable than christianity. I just dont like to think someone was spontaneously here, and decided "hey, I wanna create a huge void, put planets on it and life on certain planets". But then again, I'm Atheist, so I'm more of a science guy myself.

Thats all the theories I can remember, let me know if you agree or disagree with anything I posted here. And yes, I am aware the last one there is more personal belief than science, therefore we will all be biased to our opinion.

I also believe that if this crap keeps going on about the doomsday stuff, and the general population ends up believing the world will end, we will go into anarchy and destroy ourselves, whereas if we just wait it out (like Y2K) nothing will happen, and we can get on with our lives as normal. See the human reaction to an EMP attack on North America (not sure, it will likely be in wikipedia) to get the jist of what I'm trying to say.

lol, basically what I said here:

"The comet, as nostradamus calls "Nibiru" (IIRC) may or may not be the Planet X NASA discovered back in 2001 I think it was. If it is, GREAT! we will see a comet that hasnt been seen since around 3000BC! Will it hit us? probably not, if it does, oh well, it'll be quick."

Either way, though, we all die. Some earlier than others but usually before we're 85.

I think the Idea of Dec.22 being the end is dull - How can people predict the presise day? and how come all of these things are on the same day aswell?
I'm pretty sure that meator will head towards Earth at some point intime, might or might not be dec.22 but In all I think we'll be fine.

Where did you get December 22?

As far as I know, it started with the Maya Calendar saying that it was only going to happen in 2012.

Also: the same conspiracy happened for 1987 (198-something, at least).

Mayan calendar ends on that day, and all sorts of doomsday theories spawned from it. It's just the end of a series of calendars that make up the "long run".

All through history there have always been doomsayers, and every single time in history they have been wrong. I don't know why I should believe what they say now.

I didnt know about any other major doomsday blasphemies other than the Y2K one. I figured this one would be worth posting as it's all over the discovery channel. The Crystal Skulls was one of em (supposedly could save the earth via some kind of magic or rediculously advanced technology), Doomsday 2012 was another, the documentary of Nostradamus just before the former. When TV starts putting together documentaries trying to prove some kind of flawed science behind something, ESPECIALLY doomsdays, there's a serious problem.

Basically what i researched is that on december 12th 2012, the earth and sun alligns with the galactic horizontal "disk" of our galaxy. thats it. The mayans figured this out with their incredibly accurate calender which is startling for a society that is so primitive. Especially since theres some astrological activity going to happen on the very date they specified.

Maybe something will happen, i dont know. But apparently the last time this happened over 5000 years ago, the first major human civilisations sprang up.

But really, you cant dwell too long on these sort of things, the only thing you can do, in the words of Fartybartfast, "hang yourself loose and keep yourself busy. Id much rather be happy than right any day."

Meh, we'll probably get wiped out in the (short) Israel-Iran nuclear war (my bet is on 2010) that'll trigger the long waiting Pakistan-Indian tensions. And then from their, the hair trigger countries of the world (US,Russia, China, UK, any nation with nukes and radar or radio) will let loose with all their nukes.

So, we're probably fucked. (oh, and I selected Galactic Federation, heh, cus why not?)

Ah, December 12, couldnt remember if it was the 22nd or the 12th. Good call. That would be really cool though if we met extraterrestrials at the center. We could learn so much (thats actually kind of a theory on what happened to atlantis, and explains some of the insane quality craftswork done on things dating back thousands of years, perhaps they were greeted at the center :)) Another thing is apparently the crystal skulls (yes, they are real, and so is the "energy grid" that people think was placed by aliens) were coated with a thin layer of silicon (or made entirely of, I cant remember which) and some theorize that they could actually be some kind of advanced harddrive, and when we learn to read it (back to the doomsday theory... ugh) it could stop our destruction.

I am definitely fond of the galactic federation idea, but I'm not holding my breath.

If all predictions bears true, USrael will attack Iran before Bush leaves office. This will kickstart the long emergency (A.K.A Peak Oil) where we desperately scramble to pump what little oil is still recoverable and attempt to implement some combination of alternative energies stupidly ignoring the fact that you cannot run a nuclear powerplant or build solarpanels without lots and lots of oil.

We will most likely be in the post-industrial stoneage in less than fifty years and I will be happy if we somehow avoid nuking ourselves there.

What was that about mayans again?

Logically it'll be another big fuss over nothing. However, the way the world's going at the moment with terrorism, Iran, the US, Israel, recession etc. it's not beyond the realms of possibility. I doubt it will wipe out all life however.

Indeed - the ants will conquer the Earth! Flee before our new sugar-seeking masters!

Yea, Y2k is not even in the same league with this one. The Myans are not the only culture who have predicted that this date has world changing signifigance(by the way, the Myan calander is the most accurate calander that man has ever created, to this day its only a few seconds off). I believe that while the end of the world is unlikley, there is ample evidence to suggest that something big is going to happen. I have heard, and now I am going to look more into it, that a 13th constelation appears every few thousand years and that 2012 is when it will reappear. It is some constelation that is made up of two others... I'll get back to this fourm on this one...

Ok, the constellation is called Ophiuchus, and I'll try to get some more good stuff about it for later.

And by the way, Magnetic north is constantly moving.

And here I was think we were doomed eight years ago. I need to keep up with all these new trends and doomsday dates.

I think We will wake up on Dec 23, 2012. We will look up, down, left right, and backward. We will see no signs of any sort of danger. Then we get to go in to CNN, where all the crazy preachers will be backpeddling as fast as they can.

We've been trying to predict the end of the world for thousands of years, and it's always been wrong. All of the crazy nut job ideas have been wrong. The Ice Age theory back in the 70's, the one we were all so sure would happen? Global warming is going to be a load of crap aswell. We just like to panic. That's how bored the US is as a nation.....
