Wow.. Just because we are young, things aren't going so bad, *coughs!* And there is plenty of life ahead and teachers say it's not going to happen.. Why believe people that haven't studdied a lot about the next few years? The Truth is the world will end on DEC 22 2012! And also.. .. There are plenty of reasons why the Earth will end on 2012, including the global warming & Climate change... Even though scientists say the Sun still has the capacity to last for another 10billion years and so with the Earth...
How could they know? Send probes which will melt? They need proper proof.
Actually, yeah, noone knows when exactly the sun's life will end. They're making assumptions based on other stars. How they figure out that a red giant is something like 20 billion years old, I have no idea. It's not like they can carbon-date the stars. yeah, we can judge how fast a star is moving judging on how red or violet it is compared to our own, but again, how do we know thats not just its color? why would our sun suddenly turn red and grow 20x its size? I'm not good at astrology, I'm fairly familiar with physics though, and I love to use logic and common sense, especially when either can disprove something or someone.
Again, if people stay calm, it will be another Y2k, nothing bad will happen. However what I'm afraid of is because of all this nonsense going around on TV, the internet, and just about everywhere at this point, I'm afraid people will freak out and cause global anarchy, and kill everyone.
Oh, and I think I remember something about that whole June 6/06 thing, I just laughed. If the end comes, it comes. I doubt it'll be within our lifetime, and I look forward to living a full life without remorse or regrets. almost 20 years and I'm still goin that route
And finally, about that whole 2038 thing... who cares? thats pretty much identical to the Y2K 'bug' that people were worrying about. Only difference is, thats 30 years to change computer architecture and get people caught up. I'm pretty sure some kind of compatibility will be made for older programs... Thats IF the clock is based on that form of code. And besides, if you know anything about binary, 10000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 is greater than 01111111 11111111 11111111 11111111... last time I checked, the former was (if assumed four different strings) 128 0 0 0, and the latter was 127 127 127 127. I see no problem with that until that 128 wants to turn into 256, or I guess 1 0 0 0 0 (adding another string). If it's all assumed one string (which it is on that wiki page) thats still only HALF of what its capable of reaching... The wiki example shows an integer of 2147483647 just before it goes around, but 32-bit is capable of reaching up to 4294967295. Again, even in binary thats not a problem. That's a year 2106/7 rollover, not 2038... Thats also assuming starting from 1970. Calculated out with (again) only half the total integer value of 32 bit (the second binary string I listed) I come out with that magic year, 2038. If each digit (year, month, day, hour, minute) is its own string, starting from Y2k, which would assume the clocks will run out sometime around the year 2256, if PC's are even using 8-bit strings by then. Mind you that does say UNIX-based OS'es so... I dont know why, if they're so much better than windows, that would happen. Binary certainly says it wont.
