With the advent of "Avacyn Restored" we've finally seen the entirety of the Innistrad expansion to Magic: The Gathering.
I enjoyed the double-faced cards immensely, the werewolves were arguably the most entertaining tribe to play and the "Delver Of Secrets" definitely gave Blue/Red some extra weight in standard. Some of the cards were a little harder to work with even if they were extremely flavourful, for example; I made a Blue/White deck that revolved around "Ludevic's Test Subject" that won several local tournaments but I'll be the first to admit that the deck bent over backwards to incorporate the card AND compete in a standard tournament environment.
Despite my love of them I can't help but admit I feel that the flippy faced cards fell flat.
Innistrad introduced 20 double-faced cards, Dark Ascension introduced 13 and Avacyn Restored famously introduced none at all.
It's not to say I don't like the DFCs(double-faced cards) I just think that the creative directions they lead to were somewhat less promising than it initially appeared. With none of them appearing in Avacyn Restored it looks like the designers agree. There are story reasons for their absence but in my opinion they aren't very good and are indicative of a high level player and designer frustration regarding DFCs.
So what do you think? Are we going to see double-faced cards again, or was this a failed experiment by a team of mad scientists who claimed dominion over forces they could not control?
