I would say hardcopy because my inernet connection is so slow that it takes all night to dowload a half hour TV program and 3 or 4 days to download a mid sized game.

Are those games abandonware now? I looked the other day and found some amazing abandonware games like 'Warzone 2100' and 'Operation Flashpoint'. Ironically I'm fine with digital downloads of stuff that's free! ;-P

EDIT: X-Com

I've dowloaded software before and lost it because of a hardware crash. I'm just to paranoid to DL stuff like that. Besides, with a hardcopy I can go to someone else's house with the copy to play.

I like receiving actual mass for my money. Downloading things I buy just seems like a bit of a cheat, as I then can't sell it. So it then looses 100% of its value :/

Your idea sounds fine in theory but I'm not sure how well it'd work in practice. The amount of people downloading a game on its release day (and for a few days after) would be exceptional, so its a given that it would be fantastically slow to download. Also if the game had a fault after download then you'd be really pissed off knowing that it'd take god knows how long to re-download.

I would personally prefer to keep it the way it is, i.e. buy the hardcopy and when patches and D.L.C. etc. come out, then download those.

I love using Steam -> it's just so easy, you get all the other benefits of Steam, Steam weekend deals are great, etc. Mostly, I hate having to dig out the disc when I want to play a game.

I prefer hard copy.. but I HATE DRM. So I've been leaning more toward downloads just to make it simple.

I love collecting things, and games are no exception. There's just something about being able to see what you own like that that I really like.

[small]Plus, added bonus, I get to alphabetise them![/small] *ahem* I mean, I can show them off without needing a power source.

Hard copy. Boxes and manuals are just soo much sexier and you are really getting more for your money since downloadable games tend to cost the same or even more. Also steam is a piece of shit. Having to be online to play my games? What if I lose my net huh? Then I am just fucked.
Also not every country has great internet so having a data cap or slow dl speeds would make downloading games more hassle than they are worth.
I will stick to my DVDs so when steam goes under I won't have wasted my money.
Oh I just remembered from a recent thread on here. What if your account gets hacked? Then you have to wait for the company to get off its ass and fix it.
This happens to me every time I go onto the uni campus. They blocked steam, so I couldn't play peggle in lectures.
I wanted to play peggle in lectures.
So I downloaded an illegal copy, just for that purpose ^.^

i think downloadable is better but however there are still some people who don't have the internet connection to download speedily. so hardcopy is better for those people. so it 50/50

I personally think downloads work great for steam, so pc games should stick to downloads while consoles should stay hard copy. With the Xbox360 install-to-drive feature were getting ever closer to a console that doesn't require discs, and while that's fine and dandy, the games definitely take up too much space for a console.

The only problem with this is that Valve is like the only company to have a good download and keep forever system on pc, the rest usually involve one download to drive, and we all know that hard drives don't last forever.

Downloads.

But I prefer Impulses system over Steams.

Besides I've got enough junk that I don't need any more boxes cluttering up my life.
