DLC is fine if it is fairly priced. By fairly i'm talking £3 max.

Thing's like the zombie expansion for Borderlands that grants about an hour extra play for £7 (25% of the games original price) are just ridiculous and I refuse to buy them.

I bought the LittleBigPlanet Metal Gear Solid pack... such a waste of money. Like literally an hours extra gameplay. Sure it was different but it could of been replicated in a community level for free.

Then explain to me why there are free packs as well?
Because I really can't imagine EA or Activision willingly taking a loss there.
I find it intersting that out of all the explanations you can think of for such a scenario the one you desparely want to be true is the scenario in which an evil corporation is wanting you to grab your ankles. You may not be wrong but it is an interesting place to hop onto when you have many explanations.

1) Working out licensing deals is generally done on a per band basis and can involve lengthy negotiations. Lawyers don't work for free I hear and they tend to be involved in the process.
2) Some bands view inclusion in a video game like Rock Band an honor and believe it may help drive album sales. These are generally lesser known bands.
3) Other bands are famous enough that they don't feel they need to resort to charity to get noticed. Any of the supergroups that can be mentioned in an eclectic crowd and be instantly known is an example.
4) Converting songs into the Rock Band Format requires developer attention. They don't just insert a track and call it a day - someone has to determine animations and input timing. Developers generally enjoy food and shelter and therefore like being paid.

"COD is the Twilight for Males"
bravo whoever thought that up. i am going to use that at every oppourtunity
I don't see the connection unless it's based entirely upon the popularity of COD and Twilight among their respective audiences.

DLC is bad really bad, just some stuff made for more money, it's an "attrape-nigauds", only merchants of illusions do this kind of shit.

sorry for my harsh language, but it's true if you see the 90's games and compare it to nowadays there's more economists in the gaming industry than passionate gamers making them.

If DLC is content that is purposefully retained from the initial product, leaving it short and lacking, then I wholeheartedly agree. But I'm not aware of any such thing going on (then again, owning only 1 system, I wouldn't know).

If I'm a huge guitar hero/rock band fan, then of course I want more and more songs every month. If new maps are made a few times a year, esp. kick-ass user-submitted maps for my favorite FPS, then I'm all for it. If it's not an instance of the aforementioned, then what's the problem? You don't need to buy it if you don't want it.

so long as its free, or worth the cost, then yes, but if it actually is stuff that should have been there AND costs a significant amount of money, than no.

i'd like DLC to be banned for anything other than situations the guitar hero post above or pumping new life into old games that still have a big fan base.

buying a new game, then DLC is available within 12 months of the games release, is basically being sold an unfinished game at a finished game price IMO

if you get good dlc for ur money yes but the developers should do what rockstar did and put it on disc for those who want a backup

I'm going with Tycho's response of "well I like buying things, so DLC is alright by me." I mean if you're an idiot and buy something like Sims 3 I can see where DLC (aka expansions) is annoying, but then again Sims 3 isn't a good example of a game now is it.

See, now, saying that buying a game is "always" better... that's missing the point. DLC is cheaper, and sometimes it IS worth its value. Furthermore, it can give extra life to a game that you already know and love. If you don't have enough spare cash to buy a whole game, DLC can also be a nice way to still get some entertainment (as long as it's good DLC)
Read what I said. I said "I" would always find it more entertaining to buy a new game, not everyone else. Never found a DLC I would buy as it's my preference to buy a new game when the previous had got to being dull and I didn't feel the nostalgia for games I already had. I was just expressing my opinion on the matter. Since whether and game or DLC is good is down to opinion in the end anyway.

Either way, people buy it, and in some cases like it. So theres no reason to blow it off the earth as the poll says. I'm just don't ever feel like buying it.

egh..i guess i will just echo so many others with my response. I like DLC if it matters and some games do seem to be getting shorter and shorter with greater amounts of DLC. i mean even if it is made after, developers know there game is coming out and probably working on stuff prior to the release date or else it would take forever for some DLC to even come out, but in the end if you like it...buy it. if you dont..then dont. if the game is complete crap and only fun after buying download content then the developers will go to hell anyways. i do have to say i am somewhat jealous of the fact that so many PC titles (cant afford a good gaming pc) have user made DLC like maps and mods for free and every game should have some kind of DLC featuring zombies 8P

We have two types of DLC's.

1.) A portion of the game that should be in the final version but isn't just to make some more money. You can spot the type by comparing release date of the game with the DLC0s release date. The DLC is often published just a few days (or in worst case a month) after the release of the game. And the game has some signs of the impending DLC release (Dragon Age and the exclamation guy). You can see that it was planned in the start so why just not include it in the game.

2.) DLC that actually adds a lot of content and/or story. Examples are Fallout 3 and a rare few other games but I don't remember the titles at this moment.

wouldnt you say the fallout 3 example also fits with category 1?
a new mission every two months brought out as DLC, finished nice and neatly to be released as a GOTY a year after release.
(which btw really annoyed me, if i'd have known about staggered release, i'd have waited a year and bought fallout GOTY. i feel i bought the standard version under false pretences, the game was not complete when i bought it. now the complete version has been released and i can either miss out on something ive paid for or pay for it again to get the complete story) sorry about the rant, its no way aimed at you.

You're right but I couldn't think of a better example so I used Fallout. Sadly only a rare few games belong into the first category. That's why I'm against DLC's in any and all forms.

DLC is fine when you're getting something good for your money. After all, a good expansion pack is always awesome. When it's something like MW2, fuck those guys. The real shit part is when your game becomes essentially useless because you don't have all the DLC needed to actually be able to play it (like Halo 3).

I understand where you're coming from but without DLC would we have such awesome extras like the Shivering Isle's expansion for Oblivion? When it comes to things like Oblivion's horse armor thing, THEN it's not necessary...but when it comes to actual things that add on to the time you'll be playing the game, THAT is when it is, and when it's welcome.

As for the prices you have to pay for a lot of it, you have to remember that the developers put a lot of time and money to MAKE it for us...you expect it to be given for free? Nope, not at all. Would you like to get a job, work crazy hours, then not even get paid for it? Same thing~

It sounds like everyone here needs more money - I think DLC is a great thing; sure, some DLC's are crap and others are not worth what they're charged, but since I have the money to spend, and 95% of the time, I'm satisfied with the content I receive from DLCs, then I see no reason why they should stop being offered. And seriously, people act like it's such a terrible thing that game publishers are trying to make some extra money - they're a business, just like any other, so giving them shit about trying to make additional profits is retarded.

I like it. It shouldn't cost money though, Dragon Age: Origins made a good example of how to do this.. Buy the game legit and get extra content ^_^
