Merry almost Christmas everybody. I have been having this trouble for a week now. I keep on wanting to play DAO but every-time I do I get stumped. Not because of game-play reasons no no much worse than that . . . role-playing reasons. My problems are thus on one hand I can be a Human Noble which gets commented on later on and in the expansion, On the other hand I can be a dwarven noble be royalty and be respected by all dwarves plus unique dialogue from the others, on my last and strangely existent third hand is the Dalish elf who like the dwarven noble gets plenty of unique dialogue but donsnt have much carryover importance except for there boon. So in order to put my harried mind to rest I leave it up to you.(please state why which)

Edit: after seeing the posts I have decided to add magi and city elf and dwarf commoner those who want these please vote for them)
(Reedit: I tried to add the new options to the poll but they are not showing up, sorry)

I say Dalish Elf. I just like the lore surrounding them, cast off from society because they refuse to become second class citizens and if they make a their own city it would be destroyed. Also I don't think you are respected by the Dwarves if you go Dwarven Noble because of the 2 reasons, 1 story and the other is that Dwarves don't like Dwarves that have been to the surface.

Captcha: does anyone else refuse to type in captcha adds? cause I do.

Flip a coin?

The origins don't change much and none of those three have particularly interesting opening chapters. Although I do like that one scene in the Dalish origin were your character says goodbye to his/her tribe.

City elf and dwarf commoner are where it's at.

Do you just like revenge tales or putting your characters through torment?

I like being an underdog.

The dwarf noble and human noble origins felt like the game clumsily trying to give me a handjob. "Oh, you're so powerful. Oh look, everyone fears and respects you. Would you like to flirt with the servant girl who will get fired if she tells you to fuck off? Would you like a threesome? That guy made a sarcastic comment about you, would you like to have him executed?"

Dwarf commoner and city elf on the other hand made me feel hungry. Besides, murdering my through a fort as a knife-wielding bride in a blood spattered wedding gown was just downright badass.

I'd suggest finding which class you'd like to go with what race and go with that.

Warrior I'm always either a Human Noble(going the 2H route(or as a Dalish Elf if I plan to make him a Spirit Warrior)) or a Dwarf Commoner(going the Sword&Board route).

Mage: I'm always an Elf Mage. In my mind, elves are typically better at magic than humans are(and they better look the part than humans).

Rogue: Always a Human Noble because I prefer the extra Cunning bonuses over the elf's willpower.

The only good part about the Dwarf Noble is being able to tell off Trian and act like a general prick toward him. xP

I haven't played the City Elf origin in a while. Wasn't there an option to cut the bastard's balls off, or am I misremembering?

No, not that I recall.

It just comes down to kill him or don't kill him.

There was a line, "I'm going to enjoy cutting you open" that you could say. Not that it mattered, since your character was a mute, walking fence post and the guy's response response was exactly the same as if you chose one of the other "I'm going to kill you" lines.

Human Noble.

I feel it just synergieses better with the whole Arl Howe plot, whereas the other origins don't have a lot of reason to hate him beyond him following/manipulating Logain. As a human noble, you want him dead and even though it can take the whole game, there is a lot more payoff in defeating him that way than as any other Origin.

Dwarven Noble or Commoner. They're both great. Human is for boring boringers with a BA in Boringology.

Well Dalish elf and Dwarven noble both give you an excuse to not know about a lot of shit so you can ask question and still be ?in character?.
Dalish Elf probably has the least affect on the plot later on and your not personally invested in any of the events(I still like it though). You meet a Dalish clan and it changes how they treat you a bit but it isn't your clan. Your clan has already left and you just get an appearance from one of the characters in it later. Human noble is tied up with Arl Howe and gives you the option of becoming King/Queen yourself via marriage (no one else has this option). I haven?t played all the way through with dwarf noble so I can?t say what happens but I imagine it would have a big effect when you return to their city and would of course make that far more personal.

id say out of Noble Dwarf or Noble Human go for the Stunty, for some reason i have a kinship with dwarves even though some of my friends say i look like and IRL Elf

but imo the best orgin story is the City Elf, its just a shame theres not mush unique dialogue for it

I always either go Dwarf or Elf, as they have the most interesting origin stories, and Elves make better mages than humans. Plus, Dwarves are just cooler.

Dwarf Noble has the most interesting origin story, in my opinion. Getting framed for the murder of your brother by your other brother gives you a better excuse to NOT to crown your brother when you're gathering troops. Also it makes you look like you're hacking at the hurlock's groins hen you attack them and that's funny.

Dalish is arguably the shittiest origin, since it pretty much does not tie into anything in the game. Dwarf noble gets some resolution during one of the main story quests. Human Noble is arguably the most tied into the main story and it potentially opens up a few endings:

Male human nobles can potentially marry the queen, female ones can marry the new king

Personally I'd go for the human Mage story line. Not only does this give you unique dialogue in various parts of the game but also makes the Circle and Redcliffe missions feel more personal.

Also a good thing for me was that if you import a save where you were a human mage into Dragon Age II, you discover that the warden in that case was related to Hawke.

I like the Dwarf Noble story and how it makes certain decisions like when going back home be very emotional driven and can cause you to not think of the bigger picture. Also some interesting and funny conversations with many characters to be had. I enjoyed being Rogue myself for a well built Rogue has mass dps and high survival :) Also I like lock picking and avoiding traps.

I actually really like the dorf noble one because it actually is pretty dark. It's essentially about a family that turns on itself and a father that is willing to throw his own son under the bus just to protect his family's good name. It really pays off in that respect. Then there's the dilemma of "Is revenge worth it? Will you destroy your house's legacy (Possibly your child's inheritance) in the name of dethroning Bhelan? I can understand why you dislike it I guess but I dunno...
About Dwarf Noble ending.
I wish the option to become King had me do a better job than letting the dumb old friend of the King screwing up the Dwarf Kingdom... It is one of the only grey options that make the what seems to be the bad choice aka Bhelan the correct choice for the Kingdom and it's people.

Also, as a dwarven commoner you start off serving this asshole, because your sister's in his debt. Then you return later on as this honorable self-made individual, but still you find yourself doing the bidding of another asshole, because he's a noble who knocked up your sister. I thought this was a nice litle touch, your character just not being able to escape his/her fate.

Dwarven noble felt like too much responsibility. And I could never find a good role-play mentallity for the dwarven noble that I could keep up long enough.

I also liked playing as a human mage. Just this naive, disconnected man-child... My easiest role-play ever actually. Weird.
