My friend and I had a lengthy discussion about which way would you prefer to go, drowning or burning to death?

I believe that drowning would be less painful, and quicker, while he argued that burning would in fact be the less painful way to go.

Its an odd question, but an interesting one IMO.

So given the choice, would you prefer to die through burning or drowning, and why?

Burning; I say, having thus far experienced neither (Though have come close to drowning...)
I just feel burning would be quicker and less... horrifying.

Both are supposed to be some of the most horrible ways to die. I would try to avoid either one if possible.

I've had third-degree burns, and I've struggled for breath underwater... I'd rather drown, by far. An ache in the chest has nothing on burning.

Quickly cave my head in. Both are horrible.

Then again, one of the most traumatic moments of my teenaged life was watching <spoiler=Stargate SG-1 spoiler>Vala burn to death, even her resurrection didn't help me feel any less nauseous so I guess that I'd pick drowning if I couldn't take myself out some other way.

But if you had no choice....
Drowning I suppose. I've read about people burning to death. The human body isn't particularly flammable, so it isn't a quick death. I'm not going to start describing it now, but it was not pleasant to read about.

Burning!

Sure, drowning is a lot less painful. But burning is probably a lot more fun. If you're going to die, might as well go out with a band, right? A literal bang, even, if you happen to be keen on causing some collateral damage...

Skin isn't too flammable, but fat burns very easily.

I lack the experience to make a judgment either way and I am limited to only having half of the necessary information needed to answer the question. That said even if i did have half of he information I would be dead and incapable of answering....

Given the choice I would answer 'suprise me' that way I cannot regret my decision while dying.

I have heard that drowning is one of the most painful things that the human body can go through. And are we talking like being set on fire or dying in a house? Cuz most people who die in house fires die from suffocation.

I agree. Even though Vala was reserected. She would still have the memory of burning alive with her forever!

OT: Drowning if I had to choose. Less pain and discomfort I'd imagine.

burning to death, as in you die from the burning of you.

How can your friend justify the claim that burning alive would be the least painful way to go?
simple... the third degree burns kill nerve endings... so you feel nothing... have you ever been underwater too long? and that feeling of pure dread and terror... yeah it'd be worse to drown. not to mention that if you drown, there's probably the chance you could've saved yourself. like just... swim to the surface... unless you get knocked unconscious... then you just drown while asleep... so that'd be better. but if you're gonna burn to death... you just are.. nothing you can really do about it... so given the same conditions, i'd rather burn. if i'm asleep or unconscious... drown

From what I've heard suffocation is a fucking awful way to die.

And while burning might hurt like hell, you're body would probably go into shock within seconds from the pain overload. Though I'm not an expert on the subject.

I would have to go with burning assuming it's a more rapid, and less helpless death.

drowning. what people forget is although burning will technically kill you quicker, you will be awake for all of it. with drowning you are unconscious pretty quickly, so you may take longer to die, but you won't know that. they are both horrible, dont get me wrong there, but drowning is considerably better.
