You go calm before you die from drowning due to the lack of oxygen, I have experienced this, so having crossed the line once (on the painful part of drowning) it should be easier again.

Both are supposed to be some of the most horrible ways to die. I would try to avoid either one if possible.
i would say getting eating alive by a greatwhite shark... but who really knows..
getting eaten alive by ants?
Touché :p cant really think of any thing worse than getting eating alive by ants... if we are going on the "eating alive" thing... hmm

Actually, I'd almost prefer drowning. I'm more than a little selachophobic.

If I had to choose, it'd be burning. At least it'll go quickly, look spectacular and I probably won't feel very much of it once the nerves have been seared off and shock's taken hold.

But I'd still prefer freezing to death if I had more options. From what I understand, your body simply shuts down, and you won't feel a thing once its begun to take hold.

Being eaten alive by oxygen.
uh, mutant oxygen obviously.

I choose drowning! I might see some neat fish!

I guess that while both ways provide a cutoff of oxygen to your brain and therefore will make you collapse rather quickly i'd still prefer drowning.

I know this is about death, but lets just say in case someone finds you (and revives you) after it happened, i'd rather deal with some water in my lungs than looking like a monster and going crazy from all the pain.

Thats very nice of you, thinking about those who will find you. Good samaritan.

From what I understand it's fairly common for most people who die in a fire to pass out well before starting to burn, at least in the case of bush fires. I'd go with burning over drowning.

Drowning, its far less painful. Plus you can swallow loads of water and it'll be over quickly

The pain while burning is probably pretty bad before you pass out from too much pain, or lack of oxygen.

Therefore I guess I would rather drown than burn.

But if I would be thrown into lava, liquid metal, or other stupidly hot stuff - I would choose that over drowning, as you wouldn't feel much due to the shock and immediate death.

Drown, definitely. Burning just sounds like a horribly tormenting experience.

Drowning. Over all its quicker, cause you just take a breath and die on your own time. With fire you have to wait for it to catch, you have to wait for it to boil, you have to wait for it to cause all that damage, you have to hear the crackling the entire time.

Its just not pleasant.

Burning. Having nearly drowned, and been scared enough to the point where I'm terrified of submerging myself, having shock set in would be way more preferable

Personally I'd prefer neither. But if I had to choose I'd go with drowning. Sounds way less painful. Mind you the idea of shoving a fireball down my own throat and burning to death from the inside is certifiably badass.
