So, I just salvaged my old desktop and hooked the monitor up to my laptop.
I was wondering if this would actually burn holes in my eyes (figuratively speaking).
Are there any studies relating to eye conditions and monitor use?
My monitor and laptop is of a different brand though, so the colouring isn't the same. Will that hurt?

I'm using 4 monitors.

3x in Nvidia surround and one I watch movies/series on.

I doubt very much that monitors will hurt your eyes but I could be wrong.

*meh* I've been using three different brand monitors for two years now:

1xDell
1xLG
1xSamsung

And I can still make out the faint outlines of objects... ish.

All kidding aside, just change the settings to get as close a match as possible. Shouldn't affect your eyes much, if at all, provided you're not staring at the screen from one foot for eighteen hours a day.

I used to use 2, but apparently you have to choose between SLI and multiple monitors. I made the right decision. It shouldn't make too much of a difference though, my set-up was a monitor and a small TV, totally different screen res and colouring, never really had a problem with it though. Saying that, I wasn't really using the second one anyway, just to change music in games and stuff. Actually using both should be fine too though, just remember to take a break if your eyes start to bleed.

I use multiple monitors all the time. It really isn't a big deal. Even when they have obviously different colour calibrations and screen resolutions, I've never noticed anything about such a setup that caused any more (or less) eye irritation than any other.

Of course, there are some practical issues. For instance, I find myself adjusting the resolution settings a lot.

But most of these problems are a side-effect of Ati Eyefinity, since it can pretend that all the monitors are actually one big screen.

Which is great for games, but not so good for anything else.

Also, with only 2 monitors, you become very aware of the gap between them - because it's generally right in the middle of the 'screen'.

And you don't realise just how much important information in a game is right in the middle of the screen until you spend some time with a 4 inch gap right in the middle of your 'screen'...

I use a 24" monitor and the Cintiq 21UX at work and at home. I probably stare at a screen for at least 15 hours a day.

I had to give up on wearing contact lenses because of really bad headaches behind my eyes (especially in dark lighting conditions), and went to the doctor to get my eyes checked and new glasses. It turned out that my actually eyes got considerably BETTER than what they were 3 years ago. Not sure why, because I've done nothing but abuse my eyes all this time.

I'd say it's more important for your eyes to make sure you have good ambient light in the room, and take occasional breaks.

When i lived with my parents, i used 2, one LG flatscreen and 1 soemthing old-school fat-screen, never had problems.
When i moved, i couldn't fit my old desk in my appartment, and i cannot fit 2 monitors on my current desk :(

Eyesight issues arise from the lens in the eye becoming distorted, if i recall correctly.

I'd say that your constant usage of monitors has strained your eyes, constantly ajusting to light conditions, resolutions. This may have distorted the lens in a reverse way, making your eyesight better.

Still not a great idea to overdo it.
