I like it as much as I liked Drum and Bass 15 years ago. i.e. Not at all.

Dance music will come and go to give Rock music a break. Rock will be back again. I just I hope the next time Rock comes back, it comes back better than this last lot we've had in between dance phases. But it seems to follow that pattern - every 20 years - good rock - 1950s, 1970s, 1990s... I guess we should be on the verge of something more interesting pretty soon.

Perhaps good rock is always a reaction against popular dance music phases (Disco, 80s, Electronica, etc...)? So if there's a popular wave of dance music coming, expect some great rock music at the end of the decade.
Oh god, you're killing me. I love 80s and Disco. So much fun to be had.

You mean the real dubstep?

No, of course you don't. You mean that WUBWUBWWUBWUWBUWDASOHUDFVUFIFV shit that is just 20 year old Drum and Bass slowed down by 100% with all the creativity removed.

Yeah, it sucks.
Hence why I still refer to today's "dubstep" by it's real name. "Brostep".

And, seeing as one of brosteps poster-boys; a shining example of the range and quality of the sub-genre; is Skrillex...

No. I fucking hate todays dubstep. Just like SmashLove. It's awful, uninspired, uncreative, obnoxious, and just down-right annoying. For most brostep "artists", all they do is take samples of other songs; usually pop or trance; play them for a minute or two with some fucking annoying squeaky voiced singing over top, cut to the typical "wub" bass, and rinse/repeat a few times. It's the equivalent of every other awful, popular-in-its-time sub-genre that was only enjoyed by people without taste or people who wanted something they knew their parents would hate.

You want good dubstep? Listen to Deadmau5, The Glitch Mob, Basement Jaxx, or the like. At least their songs have some semblance of originality and musicality to them.

Though I will add that there is at least one "brostep" song I do like.
Funny thing is, it's repetitive as hell and, as far as I'm concerned, was "released" as a joke by Deadmau5. (released is in quotes because it was leaked to his MySpace/Facebook page and was labeled unfinished) Yet, I STILL find it more enjoyable than most brostep songs I've heard.

Quick caveat: enable the 3D on the player. For some reason, the audio quality is much improved. Whoever uploaded messed something up.
I have always called the new stuff "new-school" dubstep vs "old-school" dubstep, but just saying dubstep vs brostep is a lot easier. Also, maybe it's just me but that deadmau5 song sounds much more like the older stuff. Also, you gotta take everything he does with a grain of salt, as much of the work he's done was intended to be a joke, or so I've read.

Also, I haven't listened to Basement Jaxx in AGES, are they doing dubstep now? Last I listened they were very house, but that's back in the ol' WHERE'S YOUR HEAD AT? days. Ah good times.

Most if it is bad, I have some great speakers in my CR-Z, but I'll get my bass elsewhere. Some of the elements of dubstep can be put together in a very effective way while still being good music (LMFAO) but most dubstep is just techno with more awful ingredients.
LMFAO?....as in

sexy and I know it?....blaaarrgghhh
The intro song to their "Sorry for Party Rocking" album has a good bit of dubstep thrown in.

Dubstep is too nebulous for me to comment on. If you're referring to what most people think is dubstep, "Brostep", then yeah, I kinda like it.

Brostep is to electronic music what Screamo is to metal.

I have a decent appreciation for electronica, even though I greatly prefer punk or metal, but most dubstep makes me feel sick after awhile. I actually left the last party I went to because wub was too wubwubwub. So, yeah, not exactly a fan but a song here and a song there aren't bad.

[small]wubwubwubwubwubwubwubwubwubwub *headache* wubwubwubwubwubwubwubwubwubwub *...* wubwubwubwubwubwubwub *runs* [small]wubwubwub...[/small][/small]

I've never liked electronic music, save for one or two songs with awesome melodies. The beat in most songs makes me want to throw my head against a brick wall. Dubstep, however, makes everything else I've heard sound absolutely brilliant. Listening to dubstep is kinda like walking into a steel mill without earplugs to me.

I can't help but feel that Dubstep is simply a fad that will be long dead in less than ten years time. On that note, I don't particularly care for it, but I have listen to some that isn't bad.

I don't like it and some dubstep remixes of existing songs sound like insults to the original.

Dubstep and it's popularity is self fulfilling. (ie, it's popularity creates exposure which in turn creates further popularity). As with most things that are popular, it comes across as dull and homogeneous, especially regarding the artists at the fore. I'm of the opinion that if someone says they listen to dubstep, it probably means thay haven't listened to enough music.

I'm not a fan of any genre, I like individual tracks/pieces. But I do like dubstep generally, there's something about the chaos and disruption in the sounds being truncated or indistinct in texture that appeals to me. And of course I like a good beat. That said, there's plenty of crap out there regardless of genre (moreso with electronic seeing as people can practically do it alone in their garage, but still).

And what I don't get are people who dismiss the entire thing. I don't even see why dubstep is an issue. Just because it's new, and not everybody is the target audience, people are either 'in support' of it or want it to completely go away. There are plenty of people who dislike country music, but a much larger portion of those are happy to let other people listen to it and wouldn't degrade it as a means of expression.

For clarification, I picked wubwubwubwubwubwub because I don't like all of it and aren't a hipster.

While I'm sure there are people who listen to dubstep because they like the occassional track, I think anyone who identifies themself as a dubstep listener is almost certainly doing so because they think "it's cool". They are probably also playing it on the bus to show everyone else how cool it is as well.

Now if you'll excuse me there are some kids that need chasing of my lawn.

I don't know if I'd call myself a "dubstep" listener...as alot of the brosep feels needlesly abrasive and somtimes boring/formulatic

hence why I don't jump to defend "dubstep" in particualr

I do however listen to alot of stuff that some people might put under the "dubstep" sub genre so thats one thing to consider

electronic music can be rather hit and miss..but when it hits its one of my favorite things ever

true dat. Which is why dubstep fails most of the time. It's generally not trying to hit the mark or innovate, just immitate and issolate a very specific element that could be used to greater effect if it wasn't trying so hard to eat itself.
