Well to be honest the only Dubstep song I've heard is so I don't think they're going to be that mainstream if its popularity has "come on in leaps and bounds" and I only found that song through a montage video from one of my favourite youtube commentators (PaperbatVG)

Dubstep is good in a club but not really great on your iPod. For that reason, I doubt it'll ever get so horrendously popular. Plus I don't really think the ridiculous amounts of bass really appeal to 12 year old girls.

What I'd rather see is dubstep become incoorperated into the music of bands like Skindred or Pendulum, who could really make great stuff with it.

Nobody seems to even know what that is, so I doubt it'll last very long.

Hair Metal in the 80s
I'll have you know Glam Metal is still alive and well thankyou very much. Most of it is now under the name New Wave Of Swedish Sleaze Metal. Though admittedly it was actually bordering mainstream in the 80's... Mostly thanks to KISS being on that acceptable borderline thing. Anyway, getting off topic.
OT: I've tried to avoid hearing it wherever possible, which may give you my answer.
God I hope not. I voted who cares on the poll though, because I'll be ignoring it no matter how popular it gets.
But then, I don't know about everywhere else, but here in Perth, Australia, there's enough bogan kids playing it through their damn phones on the train. Seems pretty "mainstream" already.

Never heard of it. But you can never tell what a music genre is gonna do, for instance (good) Hip Hop has gone from underground clubs to a few artists becoming famous, to mainstream, to having sick twisted cousins (pop), and going back undergroundish again (translation: very few good Hip Hop Artists left)

Down where I live, if your a teen you either like Dubstep or Post Hardcore. Im into the latter although I dont hate dubstep. Ive heard a few bands mix the two fairly well like Smokahontas by Attack Attack.

it will never be popular in mainstream.

there are only 2 versions of dubstep. Slow 'dramatic' types which all are almost forced to carry the same beat line and timing and faster 'intense' types which ultimatly becomes jumbled white noise.

the variations normal individuals will care to listen to are simply too slow and don't envoke them to 'get up and move' at all. infact it just makes you feel like bobbing your head as you walk and thats about it. the inability to truely 'dance' to it will leave it out in the cold with main stream media.

I think my friend described it based when he said "it's not a genre of music." I don't considered it a genre either, if anything maybe a very narrow subgenre.

There is little to no experimentation in dubstep and there can't be. If you take out the LFO bass then it's not dubstep. Take out that generic drum beat and it really isn't dubstep either.

Dubstep is far to narrow and has little to no room to evolve. It's not bad music by any means but since it's so minimalistic in its foundation it really has no where to go.

EDIT: Also it is already mainstream (a.k.a dubmau5)

I have to disagree with the "noone". I know a couple people, myself included
My fault, I meant it to be with family or like your parents in your car. I love dub in the car too ;P

i dont know why people complain when their favorite songs become "mainstream", its popular for a reson, people like it

instead of bitching about how it should stay underground and curse it, you should be grateful people share a commen intrest

that just makes you look overly pretentious about your musical taste

just putting that out there...

I can hear the intro to the Jenova theme in this song.

I don't really like "pure" dubstep that just goes wop wop wop wop woowowowowowowopwop lol. I'm an electro house type guy mostly. Or else some DnB/Dub.

So like this:
However, where mainstream is concerned, I really like a few of the songs coming out. Mostly to me it seens David Guetta is king of making pop house music like this:
And then I think this is just an all around awesome song:

Obviously these aren't dubstep, but definitely I think there's an electronic sound invading mainstream, as opposed to the more RnB stuff we've been subject to for many years now.

@ BeepBoopBrother:
I like your opinion. I´ve been listenin´ to Dubstep from smooth artists like Mt Eden to Cyberoptix, Kanedubstep and Alborosie just to name a few. I do think Dubstep parts will be adopted into pop-songs, but the characteristics of real Dubstep will stay what they are and what they´re supposed to be: Underground.
Here two examples of what I´m talkin bout:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aibUFrRo2pg
this might be taken over by industry, while this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUWtUXB0Gjo, won´t.

Uh... Hasn't it already been? And then gone? In fact, was it ever even here? I've never heard it on the radio before... Actually i probably wouldn't even be able to tell it apart from any of the other shitty modern dance music.
