Yeah, it'll be a hit, I can see the trend there, Emo was able to take over from Goth, New Metal has pushed its way past Metal (not saying they're the same thing, just go with me on this). But here's the thing; just because something is simply more popular doesn't mean it's better.
I've heard way more poetically structured lyrics in Goth music, a hell of a lot more technical skill in Metal than either New Metal or Emo. The Dubstep movement will be popular, insomuch as a subculture can be, but compared to its predecessor (D&B) it doesn't come close, most of the stuff I've heard just doesn't have the same technical skill and structural power than the old-school stuff like "Black Tarantula", "Helicopter" and "Twist 'Em Out".
I'm not so much of a curmudgeon that I cannot stand music evolving and splitting into subgroups, many decent genres have been made by pushing the boundaries and exploring the limits, but don't mistake it for quality as a whole, I'm sure there'll be good songs in there somewhere but, from what I've heard from this recent resurgence it still has a hell of a long way to go before it has fully matured into a genre in its own right.
But, then again, it's not like my two cents are worth anything anyway. If you enjoy it then good for you, doesn't say anything about you and I won't have a go at you about it as everyone has their own tastes and I respect that. I'm just giving my reasons for not appreciating it as much as people say I should and I'm getting really tired of having it recommended to me.
I just had to get it off my chest.
