So ive been listening to a lot of Dubstep tracks and mixes recently, ive been spending a lot of time going to clubs on Dubstep night. For those of you who have not come across it, Dubstep is defined as "tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals" and is becoming a lot more mainstream.
This has created a sort of divide amongst my friends, some hate it, some love it. I personally enjoy the genre greatly and wanted to get your take on it, do you hate it or love it, and why? Have any fav songs or artists? Do you think it will sticka round or pass by like so many other genres?

Better than techno.. So if that replaces techno, then i'll be happy. I will get less annoyed.

I think it depends on how much effort the artist puts into it. If it's some crappy loop of nothing special, then I wont listen to it. If it's a unique and flavoursome track, I'll like it.
Basically, if it's good = yay.

not alot of choice in that poll there. suffice to say I feel old when I hear it, because the feeling can't escape me that I don't get it.. it sounds random and not much like what I would call music. And saying just that is what makes me feel old...

I'm not a fan at all. I haven't heard anything that would make me want to listen to more.

I wouldn't say that I love dubstep, but I do enjoy listening to it.

I think it falls under the genre of 'music I want to dance to while vaguely intoxicated', but also spills over into 'music I am happy to listen to alone or in the company of others if it comes on'.

It's also quite fun to drive to. :3

Dubstep ranges somewhere in the middleground of the sophisticated electronic dance music hierarchy...

A lot better than all those crap produced for the peasants (everything that begins with Hard in its name, Trance and Mainstream Gueatta-like House...)but it can't compete aesthetically with for example Minimal, Fidget or even some scene Electro house.

Some of the original Dubstep tracks are actually really good but the genre in itself isn't contributing that much to the club culture to rise over it's mediocrity.

It can be good, but most of the stuff I've heard has been quite shit.

That and when they remix a song and dubstep it it's just...no.

I can't stand Dubstep. Everything I've heard is just irritating repetitive crap with no melody or tone to it. I find it hard to even classify it as music (it's bordering). The thing that annoys me most about it isn't the "music" itself, it's just seeing how popular it's got and how much some people worship it.

Obviously, I'm usually in to a totally different type of music but I'm not opposed to all Electronic music, but I just can't stand Dubstep. But I am aware that it's all just personal taste so I mostly don't get too worked up about it. I just hope that it will just be a passing fad and will go away sooner or later. Hopefully sooner.

It's not a genre of music.

It really isn't.

Some bloke gave his 4 year old a keyboard and told him to bang the keys while he edited it. Thats what it sounds like to me.

But i'm old and think most modern music is shit.

Give me Bowie, Queen and some 80's power ballads and we're away.

Dubstep's not my thing. A bit of roots dub? Fantastic. But not dubstep, it seems to have absolutely no soul, to me.

Its basically just techno to me. Not really my genre of music either, but I am slowly hearing more of it. Do I like it? Its alright. I just think it will be a phase, just like whats popular on the radio comes and goes, so will Dubstep.

Dubstep is pretty much just a drawn out breakdown that people with no sense of rhythm listen to. My brother went to a club that was playing dubstep once and he said all the people dancing were dancing out of time.

Its like a drawn out metalcore breakdown with little to no variation. Thats my ire with it. and the dubstep fans...

So big NOOOOO for me.
