Alright, I'd really like some help with this. It may seem like a no-brainer, but please bear with me...

I play Xbox 360. Always have, ever since '08. Its just me, but I like the idea of having a dedicated piece of equipment to run my games on without having to deal with things that I hear about like SecuRom or other such things I have heard that makes it hard on PC gamers like yourselves.

Now, onto the subject of the topic: Duke Nukem Forever. The game I have been waiting patiently for along with the rest of the world. It's coming out in North America on June 14th. June 14th. That is the exact date I'm supposed to get on a plane to go on vacation to Hawaii. Now, here's the conundrum: I could wait a week, then buy the game a week later for the Xbox 360 and play the game for three days before I leave for my summer semester at college, or I could buy the game off of Steam and play it on my laptop during the 15-hour plane ride to Hawaii.

Seems like a no-brainer, right? But here's my concern; the laptop I have is a factory-new Sony VAIO F-series laptop. I've tried a few games on it, and it seems to run last-gen (console-wise) titles quite fine on high settings, but I recently got a more recent game (Splinter Cell Conviction) off of Steam to see what would happen if I tried out a more recent game on it. Turns out that-well, its not as framey and laggy as the Crysis demo was on my piece-of-junk tower computer, but it's still sometimes jolts me out of the experience a bit whenever I play it- even on low settings. So, the question I pose to you, reader: What do you think the better DNF experience (the one we've been waiting for for QUITE a long time) would be: playing a 15-hour game for three days on a dedicated console, or play it the day it comes out with all time in the world on a not-so-dedicated laptop?

This question has been festering in my mind for a bit, now. I would just like to hear some opinions that aren't my own. (Constructive opinions? Plz?)

Console. Would you rather have a not so great experience instantly, or wait a bit for a better experience?

I'm a PC gamer and I say wait and play it on your console. Who knows how optimised DNF will be? You might not be able to run it to your satisfaction and then you'll end up buying it twice. I'd wait anyway, no matter how much I loved Duke3D, Serious Sam just looks slicker.

I'll often seek out titles for the PS3 before their PC counterpart because it's generally less hassle for roughly the same experience. Plus I enjoy the additional incentive trophies provide. Sure Steam has achievements but they just don't feel as worthwhile.

We each have our preferences, mine is the console.

Well, since it's on Steam that you'd be making your purchase I would lean towards PC, simply because you will keep that game on your Steam account forever. Eventually you might get a decent PC that will run that game fantastically and will be happy you did when you realize your Xbox 1080 and/or Playstation 5 doesn't run backwards compatible games. In the long run I trust Steam purchases much, much more. And besides you may come to enjoy the PC community more and make a smart decision to switch and stop paying ridiculous Xbox LIVE fees.

Heh, we're talking about duke nukem forever here. It doesn't matter what platform you chose to play it on, its gonna be crap.
Burn him to the stake.

OT: Get console. You won't have to worry about lag.

I'll get the gasoline

OT:
While the PC gamer in me says get it off of steam, get it on console so you can play it without the frame drops

I'd wait. It's not...I dunno. I'm disappointed. I'll still get it, but I'm waiting for the inevitable price drop. As for the plane, I'm not sure that a game like Duke Nukem would be appropriate to play on a plane ride.

I'll get the matches and the camera

OT: I have played the demo, it's really good, though I've been having some framerate issues, thugh that may just be my quite low system specs, since some people I've talked to about it said that it ran really well and smoothly

The idea of killing the 15 hour plane ride with a proper gaming platform (handhelds just dont keep my attention for long enough) sounds like an awesome plan to me, having said that, running it on a laptop that may not be quite up to the job could make it 15 hours of torture never mind thinking about the amount of heat it would be putting out after a while.

DNF would be best enjoyed with a proper mouse and keyboard in front of you and/or lounging on a sofa with a controller in your hands.

I would say get it on your console and enjoy it properly. You've waited this long, whats a few more days..

Meanwhile for the flight, get Super Meat Boy off steam and enjoy 15 hours of awesome platforming and freaking out your fellow passengers as you scream in rage at your laptop :)

take the better experience man, even if its less time.

Laptops have never been up-to-date with games, closest ones that match up to any kind of hard drive are probably custom-made, or AlienWare laptops.
