Duke Nukem Forever has been in production since April of 1997. I think we can all say, without a doubt, that this is too long a production time for a game. If DNF doesn't turn out to solve every problem of mankind, find the cure for AIDS and every type of cancer, end world hunger and divise a solution to world poverty, I can safely say that we will run after the 3D Realms development team and George Broussard with guns and pitchforks. Do you think Duke Nukem Forever will be worth the wait? Just a reminder, if you vote yes, you might wanna look under your car the next time you start the ignition.

Have you just watched Yahtzee's GDC video? The reason I ask, is that you've just paraphrased his closing statement.

On topic, no I don't think it will be worth the wait. Prey wasn't and Duke Nukem is a much less sympathetic character than whats-his-name from Prey.

3D Realms is a mafia-owned money laundering operation. There is no game development going on.

I say let them stall even more so that they can be in the guiness world record for the longest ass time to make a fucking game. Because that's all they're going to win when it comes out.

PS. I want crackers

Yeah, it's pretty much one in the same, but half the stuff people say is directly quoted. And I really will pledge to chase the ENTIRE 3D Realms team and George Boussard if the game sucks. Which it will.

it'll be more insane over the top serious sam-like gameplay. You can't expect greatness. Really it's not even the one they made originally. that one was cancelled. This one just uses the same name so development for THIS game hasn't taken 10 years.

Considering how well TF2 turned out, it's possible that Duke Nukem will be a good game, but how much will people want it? The original wasn't that great and with the hype that has surrounded it for so long, and the generally declining interest in all that is nostalgic, I could see even a good Duke Nukem release meeting dreadful acceptance.

Well, the game certainly looks like it exists. The Jace Hall Show had a sneak peek of it and it looked...like a surprisingly colorful FPS. Game footage starts at 4:10

I think it is one hundred percent a joke.

It won't be done unless someone hijacks a nuclear sub and points it at the developers and says 'Make Duke Nuek'em. NOW."

Good point...
I imagine that conversation will go something like this:
"Honey, where's my keys to the Nuclear Submarine?"
"You leant it out to dave to blow up Iran with, remember?"
"Oh, damn."

I don't think any game could be worth that long a wait. Plus, this is, what, third or fourth redesign? What's the chance that a developer turns out four or five pieces of crap so vile as to not be worth finishing, and then hits gold?

I think there's a huge number of people waiting to buy it - when it hits $20. Or $10. Or comes free with an issue of PC Gamer. Unless by then they've heard it really sucks. I predict a so-so game, great financial losses, and fingers pointed to piracy.

No, it will not be worth the wait.

But technically some games have been in development for 11 years (or close to it)

"Too Human" was originally for the PSX, but now for the Xbox360.

And MGS4 i think was actually started somewhere in 1999 or something.

I know i heard those statements somewhere, just can't remember where.

No. 11 years, nothing is worth that wait. Brawl wasn't worth the extra 5 month wait. Nothing would be worth waiting 11 years for.

I was a big fan of Duke 3D. I haven't been waiting for DNF, but it's definitely a game I'll pre-order once it's close to release. I'm not expecting anything revolutionary or ground-breaking, just Duke Nukem, that's all I need.

The only time I've actively waited for a game was the week before the release of GTAIV when I was getting excited. I'm not the sort to dwell on a sequel so the fact it's been in and out of production for 11 years means nothing to me.

It doesn't matter if it's worth the wait or not. No matter what, Duke Nukem Forever will be bought by every gamer worth his salt! 3D Realms will make billions off DNF, no matter what.

Same with Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. Anything that involved sprites, before polygon models, would do the same.
