The other day I bought borderlands GOTY for £12 for the xbox, but i have a copy for the PC, albeit without the expansions.

My justification for having two copies is that i now get to play borderlands with my friends on xbox whereas i don't play online on the pc and i got all the expansions at a decent price to work my way through.

So as the questions says have you ever bought duplicates of games for any reason? Do you think that i'm wasting my money? Any thoughts or opinions?

I bought Half Life 2 and then got it again in the Orange Box. You're not wasting any if you play both. I ended up giving the Orange Box copy of Half Life away to a friend on Steam.

I never actually buy duplicates of the same exact game. But, however I've bought updated versions or remakes of the same title. If you are getting more enjoyment out of the game by buying another version or simply on another platform I don't think it is a waste of money.

I bought a duplicate of Fallout 3 GOTY once, for ?25 (that someting like £18 or $35) for the xbox while i already had it on PC. But that was because, for some reason, my PC refused to run Fallout 3 anymore...

Anyway I don't really think you wasted your money, it wasn't that expensive and if you think it was worth it... well that's the most important thing, isn't it?

Yeah, this is what I do.
For example, I bought Persona 3 when it came out. Then later, Atlus released Persona 3: FES...sooo I bought that. THEN! Atlus released P3P, and I ended up buying that.
Even though it's the same story, things are changed around, events are added, etc.

I've bought a PS3 and I made it very clear that I only would buy the exclusives. So far I only have 3 games :( (Taxes at customs make them very expensive around here). That is to say, I'm a little thight in money, so I do not tend to buy the same game for another platform.

yes TES IV due to a lost disc (I later found back)(one version is the GOTY version I got for my 17th birthday and the other is the CE I also had the German version to replace the disc (which did not work with my US installed version))
and FO3 (to replace my busted lunch box and broken PIPboy clock I later used the disc to replace the broken one)
and the Orange box (one PC version and one 360 version)

I have the Oblivion disk from launch and the GOTY disk I bought 2 years ago or something. I think that's the only one though.

I've got 5 copys of FF7... two for PS1 and 3 for PC simply because I love the game and I'm really bad at remembering where I left a CD (CD's are floating in various other game cases)

Also got a few copys of various games from promotions, special sales and other things when I already owned a copy of a game.

When I went to go pick up Dissidia Duodecim on launch day, the guys at EB informed me that the game was pushed back due to shipping problems (all across Canada). I was disappointed to say the least but I was going to be patient and wait the extra week or so. Yea, that didn't happen and by the following Friday I just got it off the PSN but ended up still getting my physical copy when it came out.

Good thing about that is I got 2 PSPs, and with 2 copies of the game I can have matches with my friend without him having to dish out money for the system or game. It's a good thing the game was being sold at a reduced price to that of the original game so I'd call that a win win.

Oh yea and I guess Blazblue Calamity Trigger would count as well. I have the PSP and PC version of the game, and Contiuum Shift will probably be the same way when the PC and PSP versions come out.

Also Guilty Gear X2 to an extent because I have RELOAD and Accent Core....and they are sorta the same game with a few tweaks and adjustments but still fundamentally the same.

Let's see, I've got MGS1 (PSX and GC), OoT (N64 and GC), Super Mario 64 (N64 and DS), FF4 (GBA and DS), HL2 (XBox and 360), RE4 (GC and Wii) and TES4 (only cause my 360 ate my first copy).

Yeah... so, funny story.

DOW:Dark Crusade was released in the US about a month before it was in the UK, so, me, being an idiot at the time thought "Hey, why not import it!"

Yeah. I know.

Anyways, after about a week of it being released over here, I was all like "well fuck this shit, I've clearly been ripped off, I'll go out and buy it, then be wiser from this whole experience, learning never to trust these import places", so I head out in the morning to town (I couldn't drive, so I had to walk down in the morning). Get to the store, buy it, then head back home, happy as Larry that I've finally got this thing I've been waiting on for over a month.

And I shit you not now. When I got back home, guess what was waiting for me? That's right, a nice DVD shaped package covered in US post marks.

It's still on my shelf, right now. A fitting reminder that no matter how much you think you've fucked up, there's always a way to make things worse =p

Not really. I mean, Portal came free when I preordered Portal 2. So, yeah, technically, but I didn't pay money for it. I can't think of a reason to do it.

preedit editry: actually yes, I have. I own a quite a few games from the Wii's virtual console because my super nintendo imploded :(

Basically the only thing the wii is good for.

I have three copies of FF7. Two for PS1, one of them has a slightly dodgy disc though, and one for PC.

Two FF9s because my original copy's disc 4 died and I haven't got round to trying to fix it.

Two copies of DMC3 although one is Special Edition so it's technically different but still the same game.

Yeah, I have two copies of Portal 1, if that counts. Got one free for preordering and everyone I know already has it. Other than that, I have two copies of OoT, two copies of Mass Effect 2, Oblivion and Oblivion GOTY, and two copies of Killer Instinct for the SNES because I got the game itself then the black SNES package that came with Killer Instinct.
