Does anyone think EA can survive against Steam with their Origin system? :/

In my opinion I don't think they can compete, but I want other opinions on the matter :>

Can't I be against both. I really hate these systems that makes games slower to load, makes me at times unable to play and and sit on my PC taking up resource.

Have you ever tried to use the dreaded EA download manager, that thing is the devil incarnate I'm pretty sure it makes kittens explode as a random bug.

I would say no becuase EA wouldn't know customer service and working download software if it bit them in the face, which it probably does.

Origin won't be able to compete with Steam. As I see it, Origin will be for pretty much only EA games as I can't see any other games willing to go over to it without being paid to do so. Steam has a bigger audience to start with and it's proven to be effective.

Sadly I'll likely be forced to use Origin with Battlefield 3. =|

Basically this. Plus the fact that steam has everything going for it. I dont want some browser crap, I want a nice clean interface like steam is (for the most part). Hell I remember...the ONLY time I planned buying DLC was some Mass Effect 2 stuff. And it was simply too much hassle. I messed around for so long inside those fucking awful pages (not origin then, but bioware/ea)...I just gave up.

POOR design.

I dont follow, aside from the "prepping for first time launch" installation of .net and direct x that seems to happen every other time I start up borderlands/ME2 there doesnt seem to be much of an increase in time to load, and steam itself takes up virtually no HD space as it is little more than a web browser with some extra functionality, and as such uses up hardly any memory.

Are you trying to run it from a TI-86 or something?

I think, in the long term, it would have been more profitable to sell their products on steam. They would have got it to an already large user base, and they maybe able to use it to advertise steam to a bigger audience. Everybody wins.

I told my friend about the new Origin system. The first thing he said after laughing was "Pirating."

I think that's exactly what will happen.

I want both to do well. Competition is good. EA has to realize they will need to step it up in terms of customer service, selection, and affordability. If they don't, they are in for a rude awakening. But even if they don't realize that at the outset, they will adapt. They aren't going to give up on Origin quickly.

I can see EA keeping it but I don't see it out doing Steam since it only has EA games. Also I really don't want to have another thing floating around on my system just to play games.

I have had horrible experiences with that thing. I am not buying things off Origin unless they seriously improve their crap, I don't care if I miss out on Battlefield 3 and the like.

My internet is way unstable, you know that preparing to launch message that steam shows before the game starts, well when my internet is weak it can take a couple of minutes for it to verify the game and let me play it. And offline mode isn't really an option since my when I restart my computer steam forgets that it was put in offline mode.
It's not the space on the HD that annoy me, Steam is an unnecessary program that run in the background it take a little bit of your PCs CPU and memory. You know the thing that your PC uses to make the game run properly. One program doesn't matter, but you often have a lot of them running and eating away. Why be glad that you have an extra forced on you.

I think Steam will likely remain the more successful of the two because it's well-established.

Though I won't be jumping right on-board with Origin (unless they give me an updated System Shock and System Shock 2 for modern resolutions and widescreen), I do hope the best for them. Competition could be a really good thing for us, regardless of whether or not you prefer Steam or Origin. Recently Steam started doing daily sales... coincidence? I think not, and I'm not gonna complain about saving money.

Unless they either have some seriously insansely popular exclusives and/or undercut Steam on prices (assuming a similar range of titles), then no. Steam has been around too long, is more advanced, mature and developed, is proven and established with a larger library and most users who use digital delivery to date choose it. It's a case of too little too late. They may get some customers, but the lion's share is spoken for.

If they can undercut on price however, and/or offer exclusive must-have titles they can draw some customers based on those things. But I'd probably prefer to buy those must-haves in a box rather than a non-Steam DDP.

When was the last time EA did something I approved of or liked? (and not including one of the studios its bought and/or crushed - they don't count)

Oh that's right.....never. There is a reason they are hated and never seem to 'get' the markets they are trying to sell to.
