Ultimately the Earth is going to be incinerated by the sun, everything you know and love will be turned into plasma.

So, why bother when this is the ultimate fate of the planet? So long as it remains livable for my life, I don't care. Considering the time it takes for change to effect climate, I should be fine.

Now, now, my good man. There's no need for name calling.

As for space solar farms - yes, those are a relatively good idea, but really, there will probably a somewhat large safety hazard, and if those things get broken, which they will, because space isn't exactly the emptiest of places, the costs for repairing them would be astronomical compared to anything else. And there will definitely be some impact on the earth.

But, in theory, they're a good idea.

You fucking what?

Hottest year on record was 1998 and even that was cooler than the medieval warm period, which you climate change hippies so desperately tried to push under the rug with your bogus hockey stick graphs.

At least try to think for yourselves.

I always thought that the way to fix this is to basically live like the pioneers did and throw away everything we've developed in the last 200 (I'm stoopid so its a random number) years. And people are selfish in that respect so its not gonna happen. When science finds a perfectly find source of energy and a replacement for wood then everything will go all dandy.

That would be terrible.

The way the pioneers lived was not friendly towards the environment. Because most of their structures were made out of wood, they cut down trees faster than they could grow. There farming techniques were not as advanced, so a large amount of farmland we have now was not usable. Plus there were all the species we made endangered back then because we didn't give a shit about their habitats.

It needs to be fixed. I try to make my life as carbon negative as posible but that isn't going to make much of a difference. The thing is people don't realise that with new tech and improvements what could benefit out planet will benefit them, and their wallets! So why don't they go along with it?

May you please clairfy where this statistic was from?
Agreed. I call bullshit. The WORST figure I've heard is like a tenth of a degree.

Switching to alternative energy sources and converting cars from gasoline to electric would be a huge help.
But then we'd have an even larger demand for electricity. And most electricity today is still generated mostly from fossil fuel sources.
True. But correctmeifI'mwrong, we'd end up using less fossil fuel if we made the switch, since there are so many cars on the road.
A reasonable assumption, but I doubt it. Alternative energy sources are all fine and good, but they're still not all that cost-effective. Plus, what people don't realize is that fossil fuels are the best for generating power at the moment because of their huge output.
(This is why we need more research with the LHC...)

I mean, if you had to fill this gigantic energy dearth, would you go to the solar companies who would charge you more than a coal company for less?

It takes thousands and thousands of years for this cycle- ice age to thawing
and we realise that we have only been burning greenhouse gases for just a couple hundred years
it is a bloody big coincidence that it is happening specifically now- when we are putting all that stuff into the atmosphere

and it's effects can be reduced enough to stop serious damage
I'm with Naturalized on this one. Global warming is a bunch of bullshit designed by the global elites to shackle everyone on the planet with a Global carbon tax. Hope you're ready to pay up for breathing...
there are a million things the government can make up taxes on, there is so much proof pointing towards it, co2 is a greenhouse gas and guess what- deforestation, factories, power stations produce it
sure noone likes taxes but if global warming is a conspiracy then the government will have to have spent a helluva lot making it this well known
What I find fucking amazing is that people act like co2 is a pollutant. Dont forget that co2 to plants is like oxygen to us! The more co2 the better off plants are going to be on this planet.
I know that - the problem is that all the plants are being cut down so there is not enough co2 being taken in
and to be clear- I am not a hippy and I'll be dead before It majorly affects me- I just wanted to make sure youre facts were straight

I was just pointing that nowdays people go about acting like co2 is some kind of deadly poison to the planet, which is utterly false. I know that too much co2 (or too much of anything for that matter) is a bad thing for the environment. I just don't buy the fact that humans are causing. Don't forget that the sun was heating up every other planet in the solar system, did we cause that too? There's a shit-ton of naturally occuring factors that influence the prior heating (and now apparently cooling) of the planet. I just think that the people that have the most to gain (see Al Gore and many other eco "terrorist" nuts) really want to scare the shit out of people so they buy into using carbon credits and paying carbon taxes.

The thing is that I highly doubt that any money collected will actually go to solving environmental problems, it's going to likely go to line the pockets of industry leaders and politicians just like so many other scams they have fabricated.

Simply put, I do not buy into man made global warming at all. I would title it "Unstoppable Global Warming every 1500 years". Don't get me wrong, stop pollution by all means, i completely agree on this but I don't think we're causing increases or decreases in tempurature.

Something has to be done. Sadly, it looks like nothing will be done. We may as well start making isolation computer pods for our populations and transferring the whole world into world of warcraft instead.

Can we possibly transfer to Lord of the Rings Online world instead? Just sayin'.

You guys might also look into one of these before you go to your computer pod.

Maybe not increase or decrease but summer(at least were I live) is lasting longer much longer. It started in March here and we in the middle of October and theres still days with 30º or more, with the odd day of 25º but with no wind or anything it feels like 40º. There was none of this 10 years ago, and were I live(Algarve South Region of Portugal) is still Summer while in the rest of the country theres rain cold days/hot days.

Something went haywire and something changed cause there isn't anyone alive that remenbers stuff like that.

Independent if it happens every odd thousand year, human hand probably accelarated that process.

Might look into blaming governments for doing their chemtrail experiments too, who knows the long term effects of that kind of shit.

Yeah, I have seen (not physically) those floating garbage patches and it really is a shame to see. I do completely agree that we need to curb and reduce waste as much as possible. I'm not a hater of life and the planet at all, I love this place and I want it to be a clean(er) planet. I just think that there's a lot of misplaced aggression towards humans in general when it comes to global warming.

Hell, why not merge em? why not merge all the mmorpgs, then we can have a fanboy war of epic proportions. Plus, we may see sauron and the lich king offing each other.
