Sadly if I had to choose probably the daggerfall.
They are the canon victors of the war.
Really? is the outcome already known? How did they win and how did the other factions fare?
well the fact they are the race with the most humanoid traits seem to point that direction for the empire. thats just common sense no lore involved when I typing this.

Tiber Septim, the founder of the third Empire, was born Hjalti Early-Beard in the High Rock kingdom of Alcaire, and High rock is part of the Daggerfall Covenant.

The Ebonehart pact broke apart after the common threat, Molag Bal, was gone, and the Aldmeri Dominion got their faces stomped when Tiber Septim used a giant god-killing, time-altering, robot, The Numidium, to lay siege to, and destroy, Alinor, the capital of the Summerset Isles, in less then an hours time.

If this poll is any indication, there will be serious faction imbalance in the game, considering how unpopular the Aldmeri are.
Not many people have voted enough to say that too quickly, but you're probably right to a degree. Which is a shame, because the Aldmeri Dominion in Skyrim isn't the same as this one in the Second Era, they just happen to operate under the same name (to borrow that reputation). So while they may be a little stoic, they aren't as bad as the Aldmeri Dominion as we know it in the present timeline. And they represent probably the most exotic and beautiful locations - the mysterious Summerset Isles, the giant forest of Valenwood and the jungle desert in Elswyr.

But they do still have the Khajiit and the Bosmer, which is the more popular non-human race than the Argonians and Orcs and also everyone's favourite archers, which is a very popular fighting style based on a class-based poll thread made a little while ago (with mage as the ultimate favourite). Granted there won't be many Altmer, but the number of cats will make up for it I'm sure. And Altmer are actually the best mages than any, despite my reservations as a Breton player to say that.

And of course people wishing to switch sides after completing their questlines will eventually make their way to the Aldmeri.

I will probably pick either The Aldmeri Dominion or The Daggerfall Covenant.

I usually play as a mage, so it is hard to decide.

Are you familiar with how the races work? If you're wanting to go full-on attack mage, then being an Altmer is your best bet as the best destruction mages, but they do have a weakness to all kinds of magic. Bretons are best for those wanting to focus more on defensive or healing magic avoiding direct attacking, and are more immune to magic than the other races as a result. You can still be either or and go for the totally opposite style if you want to, so don't let that shoe-horn you if you're leaning to one particular side. You can be an Orc that uses magic, even (they're some of the best alchemists). So ultimately you don't need to worry, but if you want the best possible build (if they add race powers, which presumably they will), then pick your side based on your preferred magic style.

Also, I should add that if there's anyone not sure, and they're not planning to do PvP or take part in the War battles, then your decision for which race you play as will not effect much at all, other than perhaps playstyle. You can still play with your friends and go to all the regions and experience the same main storyline regardless of what you pick. So choose your favourite!

Maybe the The Aldmeri Dominion for shits and giggles or daggerfall. If ranged combat is enjoyable, I plan to go wood elf. But so far what I've seen of bows (homing arrows, don't have to be anywhere NEAR precise) it seems like it might end up being bland if things continue as they have.
