Simple question, based on a conversation I had with two other Escapians. We humans have our emotions, such as hate, love, and anger, which cause us to think in certain ways and act on impulse. Many of our actions are also directed by logic though, a sense of cold reason to counter many hot-headed thoughts we may have.
The question is, would humanity be better if all we operating on was logic, no emotions clouding our judgement and thinking through all of our decisions slowly and deliberately, or if we simple relied on emotion, letting our hearts decide our decisions for us, or a mixture of the two, combining the best, and the worst, of both?

Considering I was one of the "Escapians" that was debating this, I think you know which side I pick. For the rest of you, I'm firmly on the "Logic" side. Based on my own experiences, emotional decisions often end up being the wrong ones, while logical ones tend to yield the best results.

Ha well I was the other escapian who was for both logic and emotion working as one in order to better mankind!

I do believe "neither" was the word you were looking for bub, anyhow, I'd chose both! prosparity in several fields leads to sucsess in more aspects of life, right?

No, I meant "Either" As in "One or the Other", probably not the best word to pick, but hey.

I see no reason to limit myself to one. Rather take the goods of both sides than the bads of one.

Both are horribly flawed and require the other to function without fucking everything up.
So, a balance of both. Leaning heavily on the logic side.

I'm going to have to go with a mix of the two. I've already gone into my explanation of why it is that we need logic and emotion to deal with things anywhoos. If we thought through things through logic, well erm a lot of us would be dead right now. "X is not being efficient to our society. *removes X from the equation*" Things like that. Thus both are needed.

well honestly for me it depends on the situation. I think emotion should be used for basic social issues. while technical situation type thinking should be left to logic

Considering I was late to the party in this "debate", I will give my part here....

Our emotions are necessary to humanity working the way it does. Humanity has not had a case which tons of like minded individuals all thinking along the same lines accomplishing great things. Those who are passionate about what they do, and putting effort and emotion into their work tend to come out with much more amazing results. A degree of logic is also needed in the development of these amazing ideas, but emotions also play an integral part.

Logic only, while sounding like an amazing idea....is dull. We would have no art, nor need the TV...or even most of the things on the internet. Even this site would be unnecessary, because there is no logical reason behind it, as all the time could be spent logically on something else. Emotions are what make us do something different, something fun, and something good.

Without logic we'd have a society of impulsive idiots.

Without emotion, we'd have a society of robotic lamewads.

We definitely need both but there's really no perfect way to make decisions. my mind and heart are usually at odds with each other. when emotion wins, my brain eventually says "told ya so" but when logic wins i often wonder what could've been if i'd done things differently. Either way i can end up with regrets and I absolutely hate that. But such is life I guess. Can't have everything.

You need both. Logic is better at making decisions, but without emotion you wouldn't care enough to make the decision.

Without emotion there would be no understanding.
Without logic there would be no knowledge.
Without either, there can be no advancement.
