How in the heck is a young fresh-out-of-college gamer supposed to get his fix and remain financially stable in these rough times? I've shifted to mostly computer games in the past couple of years but with that comes bigger bills for upgrades and such. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but, with the rough times we're in my major in Journalism seems useless.

Right now I'm stuck at a $9/hr job where hours are being cut all the time. Now, I'm not a lazy person and will gladly work 2, or even 3 jobs to make myself stable again but isn't there a better way than literally working myself half to death?

I don't mind if I never have the money to keep gaming (sometimes you have to let things go for the sake of survival) but, how can I or a guy like me get himself a decent job when your education has been rendered useless?

You could do what I do, offer to work on call as a delivery boy for multiple restaurants working only for tips. Since you are free they have no reason not to hire you and since you are on call you can go off and do whatever so long as you have a cell phone.

I'm handing out CV's at everyshop I pass now that I'm out of school >.> no fucking place is hiring though :( but that's the best advice I can give, take the shotgun approach and hope one place takes you on for a better job :)

You could apply for software tester, if there are any game companies in your area. I live in San Diego and got into cell phone testing before I advanced to a better job. Another thing that worked for me was attending a university extensions course. These courses are quick seminars where professionals go to pick up a particular skill. If you already have that skill you can show up to one of these courses and impress the heck out of your classmates. One of them might know of a job in their company you could fill. At the very least you can get a good letter of recommendation out of the instructor who unlike your college professors may have contacts in the field.

Also you may want to look at Craig's List. Most jobs on Monster are out of your city and while you may be willing to move most employers will disregard out of town applicants unless they poses skills that no one in town has.

This all boils down to "Make friends with old people in power".

This may just be me lacking knowledge of how payment works in the US, but wouldn't it be possible to find a better paying job? by translating currency i can tell that 9$/hr is about half of what the legal minimum wage is in Denmark where I live.

Otherwise you could do like me, work weekend/evening/graveyard shifts. It pays better for the same amount of work as 9-5

Unfortunately, I live in the South and minimum wage here is a joke. I was lucky to find a 9/hr job.

The average pay rate around here is 7/hr.
